remote central locking conversion

Right, the car I've bought has key operated central locking. How difficult would it be to source the keyless door switches (not the ones under the mirrors), and convert the car to remote central locking?

Thanks, I don't actually know if it is worth the bother. I'm more worried about scratching the area around the keyhole with my house keys than anything.

If its just a £150 conversion, plus the cost of the chrome buttons, then I probably would do it, it makes life much easier

I wouldn't have your house keys hanging on the same bunch matey. This is a TVR don't forget, you'll get the ignition lock barrel falling out under the weight if you hit a bump at speed!!!

YOU COULD GET A SECOND ALARM FITTED, THAT COMES WITH REMOTE CENTRAL LOCKING? DOUBLE SECURITY!!!

its really easy to do cant remember the wire colour but there is just one trigger wire that switches on the factory alarm and locks or unlocks the door and it needs a neg pulse i used a clifford garage door opener kit to fire a relay works great and im sure it was under £150

The keyless door buttons are just blank caps, these are available from TVR Gear IIRC.

I think I'll have to buy the Chimera 'bible', because if its cheap enough this is one mod I'll definitely be doing. The car already has a 'remote' boot release (available when the central locking is open).

It sounds like all I need are a keyfob tx, a 12V receiver connected to the central locking unit via an interface (I imagine the central locking isn't bespoke), and the new door buttons. Sounds quite easy.

I have done this on mine and it was not difficult. The door buttons came from Dream Machines but any dealer should be able to supply. The removal and fitting is a fiddle due to restricted space but not hard, and the operating rods need a bit of fettling I linked mine to a Meta alarm/immobiliser system to replace the original Gemini system. Hardest bit was working out the wiring that went to the old door lock/immobiliser control unit. Several of the original wires are no longer used and there are some very strange goingson under the dashtop - such as the fuel gauge being linked into the immobiliser

How much were the buttons? Would an independant TVR garage be cheaper?

The central locking is bespoke to tvr and all linked into the original alarm however it is easy to link into ill email you to explain

nah, unfortunately I can't drive it away until it gets a new reg plate. So probably tuesday or wednesday, depending upon how fast Mr DVLA sends the documents back to the seller.

Enjoy the car now the owner and car very well, has been cared for from an experienced owener and mechanic only problem is he wants to buy mine of me know and not after the summer.

Oh well half the fun is in the chase.
