Sorry if this is the wrong section...
Ordered a bathroom cabinet off e-bay and it arrived and was basically not the item listed on the auction.

The item came with free P&P.. whats the situation now? Ebay is saying I need to return by 11th Feb.

As the P&P was free to me will the seller refund my return postage? Its going to be c.£45...

They should refund you the return P&P if they've sent you the wrong item. Try asking them nicely & see what they say.

A quick google suggests you will have to pay. Although a reasonable seller should offer to pay if it is a mistake ..

Go on Interparcel website.
Put your parcels weight and dimensions in there and you'll get a better price.

Check your sender insurance as well, if it's valuable.

Has the OP actually asked the seller, or just come on here all outraged? Chances are the seller would just sort it out!

Not outraged - just wondering as it was free P&P to get it here.
I have asked the seller (nicely) but yet to get a reply but e-bay is saying I need to send it back.
I don't want to pay for the P&P and send it back before I get the ok from the seller - IYSWIM.
Now I have looked at the sellers feedback (97% ish on several k feedbacks but 100 -ve in th elast 6 months) it seems I may never get a reply..

Was your item bought from a business or private seller? I've recently had to return a couple of ebay purchases from business selllers - one where I ordered the wrong item, one where the seller sent the wrong item. In both cases I did the return via ebay and it generated a pre-paid return label (though I had to pay via Paypal for the return of the item I'd wrongly ordered).

Yes, especially if they didn't even send the right item. You should not be out of pocket for their screw up.

It's one of the drawbacks of buying unseen online. In return for the cheap price and the 'free' postage if you don't like it/it's the wrong colour/whatever you normally need to pay the return postage.

But it must be some size/weight/insurance value to be £45. As someone else said interparcel or parcelmonkey should get you the best prices. Shop to shop is cheapest these days.

"Packages weighing more than 20kg cannot be accepted at the Post Office."

So that rules out using e-bays own system as it must be 30kg (vanity / sink).
Will send it on a pallet and have the argument with them about the cost then I guess..

Put in a card / paypal claim as the seller has not responded - do not incur cost

^^ This, if you've paid by PP then let them sort it out.

Also, if it's a business can you not ring them to discuss?

If the seller is offering free postage he must have an account with a courier. If he is half decent he can arrange for the delivery courier to pick it up, no way should you be paying if its their mistake. On the other hand if you have changed your mind then its upto you to get it back. I had an occasion where some idiot (turned out he bought the wrong ones) bought some wheels from me but then opened a case as 'not as described' so i arranged for my courier to pick up, think the weight was around the 45kg mark
As soon as you open a case then the money gets took from the seller and held by ebay so its in his best interest to sort it out. If he dosent respond in within x amount of days i think ebay just refund you, I may be wrong as i never let it get that far.
I wouldnt do anything until you hear from the seller.

If you wait too long you lose the ability to claim - best advice is wack a paypal claim in and let the seller sort it out.

ok reread your posts. As it stands i think if you dont return by 11th then the seller escalates it and you get another 5 days, he is obviously hoping you dont return it so the case gets closed in his favour. I have had return cases where the buyer hasnt bothered to return the item and i have had to wait for the return date to pass before i can do anything. Try ebay live chat as i find that a quicker solution to most problems.
