I have an idea for a new line of clothing.

Now, is there a way I can simply sell the idea to a company? I have no chance of designing or making any product!

Not unless you can get some form of IP on the idea.

Ideas are pretty much worthless and ten-a-penny. Execution is the hard bit.

Yes this is the problem. I'd like to speak to a clothing company about taking this forward if they were interested but plainly need to protect the idea!

If it's any good countries in the "third world" will have copied it within 24 hours.

They don't care about "patents" unfortunately.

On holiday in Italy recently, we looked around a pottery business which was situated in a giant cave high up in the mountains. There were signs everywhere NO PHOTOGRAPHY.

Curious, I asked an assistant why and she said Chinese tourists took photographs and their rather unusual designs were sometimes copied within weeks.

(Bit daft really, because they could have just bought the jugs and taken them home), but that's what she said.

Well, I hope that kind of issue would not be my concern, I would like to simply sell the idea (don't know if I can retain a profit share?) and let others do the design and manufacture etc.

Mate of mine started a clothing company/their own brand. It's certainly not easy and they have had issues over folk trying to nick their IP. It's not impossible though! Their business was started with £1200 and him and his partner now have a company worth circa 20M within the space of 6 years.

To be fair, he didn't specify the currency wink
