Taxi Run cancelled
Discussion
On the news tonight.
Charity run that all the manchester black cabs do to every year has been cancelled due to red tape.
Since 1949 the black cabs hav taken disabled children in convoy to Blackpool. All the cabs decked out in balloons and stuff.
But not anymore. Now they have to have a risk assesment for every ride they take them on. Each driver has to have a police background check, and every child has to be accompanied by an adult 1 to 1.
Thus it's no more. So none of them get to go. Well bloody done. Sheesh.
One day I'll post something that isn't a rant.

i guess this will also be the same for the kids that get driven down to southend for the day by the london cabbies too.....another knife in the back of those wanting to simply give some poor little kids a smile,a good day out and allowing them to forget about the problems they have for a day.
the retards in control are determined to destroy any activity that brings a smile to anyones face through their petty interfearing......they wont ever regulate passing wind, masturbation, licking starfish's or collecting milkbottle tops though as it seems to be a rule that you have to be some sort of booring,farty,arse-kissing control freak w****r to become a labour m.p!
i suppose their next target will be the group who take dying kids to disneyworld

This is a bit disappointing. I'm taking part in a similar event in East Lothian on 8th May - 75 Porsche are taking sick kids for about an hours ride and theres a whole fun day out etc.
However, its becoming a bit of a logistical nightmare as all "volunteer" drivers need to be cleared to take part - this clearance takes some time, costs the charity involved nearly £15 per driver, and the drivers need to present birth certificates etc, which is a pain in the arse. I haven't however heard the part about the kid needing to be accompanied - if so, then this will fall apart as many of the cars (including my own GT3) only have 2 seats - so unless the kid can be squeezed past the rollcage and sits in the dunts where the seats would be, then I can't take part....hopefully we don't have this problem.

Every mode of transport a child uses needs a risk assessment done on it
What rubbish is this, a cab is designed to pick up passengers everyday of its working life why is this trip any different.
So its ok to diive me all over london but not to take kids to the seaside, MUPPETS who ever came up with this idea.
What if they wanted to use busses are they saying these would need a "risk assesment" even though thousands of kids use busses every day.

If someone like this did a risk assessment on buses even for the general public they'd end up banning the lot!
But of course, New Labour want us all herded onto these cattle trucks so they can control yet another aspect of our lives, don't they

They meant fairground rides not the licenced Taxi they are travelling in. Still doesn't make sense though as surely the theme parks have already completed risk assesments on their amusement rides.
I think most of these type of rules are dreamed up by those who at school would never have any fun and would be the first to tell teacher if anyone else was enjoying themselves.

It's what the Taxi Drivers organiser said on the news though

Yes but since when have the press ever got all the facts right? I very much doubt that licenced taxis/private hire vehicles or buses will need a specific risk asessment as they are already licenced and insured for public and private use. Certain issues are being built up to be mountains when they are but molehills. The real issue here is the council and social services lack of foresight and backbone. The sufferers are the are the kids not the drivers or the local council. If there was a history of complaint or accident on these specific outings there may be a case to look into some form of improvement. If not it's another brainstorming session gone wrong. The majority of people in positions of power in the country are no longer in touch with reality. Wrap the world up in cotton wool!
