Seasoning new cast iron skillet?

Hi all,

A while back I bought a cheap cast iron skillet (ribbed) - still in the wrapper, but fancy using it tonight if possible.

It feels like it's oily/waxy. Do I wash it, then season, or just season?

Best way to season it? Hot oven?
