Seems that a single speed camera in Nottingham has netted £4.2M in 5 years, making it the most "profitable" in the county. However, the rest of the article makes interesting reading.

In five years the Notts SCP have netted £60M from speed cameras, but exactly what have they done with this? Where are the education programmes? What about the driver training? Road improvements and co-operation with other organisations such as the Police and Local Council?

£60M is a lot of money and can go a long way in providing genuine support and assistance to improve driver standards throughout Notts.....even if we are talking that this was over 5 years. Imagine what you could do with £60M (or £10M a year) to improve safety?

Where are the independent audits? Where are the reports of their activities? Where is the PROOF that they are doing something beneficial to all motorists?

Finally the most damning comment is the usual one from SCP's:

BBC news site said:

Safety officers say accidents and the number of people injured on the road has halved in three years.

Sound bites again - which road? Where? The whole county? Dont care, as the reality says that road deaths in the UK have INCREASED and the use of speed cameras has had NO effect in reducing this..... taxation? You betcha....
