Hi All,

I wondered if any SAP users could just help me with 7 SAP questions as part of an pre-employment quiz i have. Its been years since ive used it, more recently been on Oracle and Hyperion

What is the posting key if you are posting to a debit side of a GL account using FB01?

(True/False) You can input negative value in "amount" using FB01

(True/False) You can mix multiple currencies in one posting

(True/False) You can post directly to a reconciliation account without going through sub-ledger

(True/False) All document numbers are unique within one fiscal year.

Which date is used to determine a posting period? (document date / posting date / entry date)

SEU creates financial statements in Euro. If you transacted in USD, in which field the amount
in USD appear in a posting? (amount in document currency / amount in local currency)

Thank you

Sunil

I'm not a FICO guru. AFAIK (and someone more guru-like can validate/shoot down as appropriate)

- 40
- False (use posting key to ID if it's a Dr/Cr).
- It depends. AFAIK you can have document & local currency but not multiple currencies for each line item. Someone who is more versed with the intricacies of FI can chip in here.
- False (well, I believe it is possible but not through standard postings).
- True
- Posting Date
- Probably best to remove the company identifier in your post. In the financial statements they will be reported in the default currency, the foreign currency valuation & translation is performed as part of closing activities.

Good luck.

All correct. Just to add - you CANNOT post to a reconciliation account - it has to go through the relevant subledger. However, if the SAP system has been set up by a bunch of chimpanzees you can set up manual workarounds in GL.

Phew. Chimpanzees I am very familiar with, most of my work is unpicking theirs (albeit on tech rather than funkie side).

OP hope you don't mind me butting into your thread but I've got an even more basic question.

We are moving over to SAP at work and I'm yet to have any training but looking over the woman that has had training shoulder I commented that the text size was a bit small for me. She said it was for her as well, she looked around but couldn't find a way to increase the text size.

Anyone know how to do it?

SCN is the font (pun intended) of all knowledge when it comes to SAP stuff. The challenge is weeding out the crap from the usefulness stuff. The instructions aren't for the latest version of SAPGUI but should give you what you need (assuming you are using SAPGUI and haven't been bamboozled into using NWBC, Fiori or indeed Business One).

SAP is, in my professional yet humble opinion, the worst computer virus on the planet. It is a Data Manager's worst nightmare, the abilities it gives for flexibility (read 'operate without control or diligence) has bred "muppetry" of the highest order. Still, it keeps me well employed......

bga, Thanks for trying to help but the link you posted has a smaller text size than the SAP we are using!
It also doesn't apply to 'our' version'.

" SAPGUI" " NWBC, Fiori or indeed Business One"
Any chance you could put that in simple terms, please!

Well we were using Quickbooks and I was really hoping that SAP would be much better, as I'd been told.
Surely it can't be worse?

It depends on how big you are and how big your IT team is. Imagine going to Asda in a 44ton HGV to do your weekly shop - for a very very large family this could make sense. Most people would be better off using a Hyundai i 30

Gotta agree, went from Hyperion to BPC / BW - over the last 5 years or so, dear god it's the most convoluted bag 'o ste... great if you're a contractor though!

I have heard it called "Hitler's Revenge" by certain non-PC types (it's a German company).

I don't like using it (anything where the login screen annoys me is off to a bad start) but can see some logic and value in certain circumstances.

SAP gets a kicking but is the only vendor that has a relatively integrated set of products that covers so much functionality & scales to enterprise levels.

Over the years I've worked on SAP, Oracle, JDE, Infor, Maximo + a few others so have seen plenty of comparable products.

The software is ugly & clunky but does have some logic to it (most of the time). Bad user experiences are mainly down to poor implementations rather than the product itself.

Software selection does play a part too & I have worked on plenty of projects where SAP (and Oracle) was the wrong choice. I have a long term client who decided to develop a completely bespoke solution on an SAP platform rather than get an off-the-shelf package for a fraction of the price. They are happy with it as they got exactly what they wanted but they paid for it and it is nigh on impossible to upgrade.

Dealing with SAP can be a nightmare. As a partner we have to jump through endless hoops and SAP are as quick to try to screw us as they are their customers. On the commercial side they really can be utter arses, even when compared with other large software vendors.

Skeggysteve - if you know what version of SAP you are on then I should be able to dig out something more relevant. If you are moving from Quickbooks then possibly it is Business One that you are going to in which case this may help: https://www.projectline.ca/sap-business-one-tip-ch...

Being an Oracle implementer (mainly PeopleSoft), I'm quite interested by this comment and wonder if you could expand on it a little, esp in relation to Oracle's offerings?

Interestingly PeopleSoft is one of those areas where the discrete product is far better than what both Oracle & SAP had. SAP responded by buying Successfactors but I don't think it's like-for-like.

In my experience Financials are on a par, as are sales. Manufacturing & integration with Financials/rest of suite is one area where SAP is clearly ahead. The Oracle offerings stand alone better e.g pure Financials.

Not sure if it is Business One but many thanks for the link - I'll check on Monday.
