Finally managed to give my new 7200 an airing on Saturday and shot some footage at a party. Got some stunning results and spent yesterday editing in iMovie (latest version on a four month old iMac). When it came to exporting to either Vimeo, YouTube or even just a desktop file, I couldn't select the 1080 / 60 option - it was greyed out.

The usual Mac forums suggested that the resolution is determined by the size and format of the first clip in the movie. I used clips from the Nikon and also a GoPro and all were 1080 60. I did use a title clip but removing this made no difference. Max I seem to be able to export to is 720.

Any pointers would be gratefully received.

To export your video from iMovie for iOS at 60 fps, make sure iMovie is set to enable exporting at 60 fps. Open the Settings app, tap iMovie, then turn on the option to Enable 60 fps export.

There is a bit more info on this Apple support thread: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT205346

Tried this and the movie export option still defaulted to 720. All clips are 1080 60 and the only thing I can see that causing this is the fact that there's a title page before the first clip.

Have posted the issue on Apple forums - no solution yet!

Could be iMovie doesn't like the Nikon footage or GoPro footage.

Have just put some footage into iMovie 1080p @24 FPS and it works as it should.

iMovie looks like it has really been cut back on, you don't many options anymore do you. (i've not used it for a while)

I also couldn't see where you could select the frame rate, the only option I had was res size.

I think your right - they do seem to have changed their software to encourage upgrading to the full pro version...which I may well do but I'd rather this be an organic choice not one forced on me.

I did try bring in the full 1080/60 clip and edit without a title slide and this seems to have done the trick.

So, a system that is designed with creativity at the forefront actually limits creativity in reality!!

I was just thinking the same as they push ahead with their drive for ever more sales. It's a shame because Steve Jobs seemed to be doing an almighty good job of generating decent sales and revenue without all this hard sell.

Have you tried using iMovie 6 (which is still available for free download from Apple) and is generally regarded as to being one of the best iMovie variants, though is a little harder to use.
