I'm putting my reg plate on the Elise this weekend. I already have the plates made up, I've got an MOT sized legal one and a small version made up too for the front. I want to remove the unsightly plinth the normal plate sits on.

So, what on earth do I use to attatch a small front reg plate? Is the area under where the plinth usually sits sufficiently flat to be able to use double sided carpet tape? Any better ideas?

Cheers

Phil.

Phil, I had a smaller front number plate on my first Elise and this was screwed straight onto the plinth. Couldn't fit the plate directly to the bodywork as the area was not flat at all. Might be worth attaching the plate to the plinth with double sided tape first, to see if it looks okay. Looked fine on mine!

Alternatively I've seen other cars with the number plate actually on the bonnet, though i suspect this was a sticker!

Cheers,
Richard.

Thanks for the idea, Richard, but this plate is tiny so it would look out of place on the plinth. I read somewhere about heavy duty velcro - would this work and where is it available from?

You could try a motorcycle shop for the velcro - I have friends who have their bike number plates held ofn this way, for removing on track days (and no doubt other reasons too!)
