Exhaust system 350 i

Afternoon all,
Does anyone know if there is a reason why TVR have routed the exhaust the way they have on a 350 i Series 2.
Its just that the route they have taken is running down the passenger side then over the axle into a box and out on the drivers side.
I need to replace as rotted away and the logical route is straight out after the middle silencer up over the axle and straight out on the passenger side doing away with the back box altogether !
Am I missing something or is there a logical reason......

The need / desire for a second silencer. Whilst common nowadays, TVR did spend some time on tuning the sound of the exhaust.

my old 420SE which I think has the same route at a 350i didn't have a back box under the rear bumper, was just a straight through pipe (a large pipe granted)..........to that matter it didn't have a center box either, just a straight pipe there as well lol

When my exhaust rusted through i replaced the middle silencer with a stainless one from a 400se then had a custom section made up from there that goes under the axle and out at the normal place with twin tail pipes. I thought this made sense and although it is a fraction lower i have never had it catch on speed humps and the car sounds much better.
Since this picture was taken i have re done the tail section with stainless twin 3" pipes with a shorter extension out the back which sound awseome.

Mine is a bit like that although tucked up into the rear valance a bit higher, centre box and adapted straight pipe to the rear, then two right-angles.

The last straight bit of pipe only rarely catches a bump, usually the centre box gets it, and that's the same position anyways.

I bought a 400 system so is slightly bigger bore..The mid box always manages to catch a speed hump....It certainly doesn't look like this anymore...Might be better with just a straight piece of pipe..
