Fair comment. I apologise - up to a point. It was simply that this was one of the first posts I had put up that I really cared about. Mostly I do post relatively charming, or at least humorous things. And working on the assumption that you did not get a chance to read my post I can tell you that it was about a brilliant but anonymous musician who has some amazing videos on YouTube - so quite nice really and something that I think many folks on PH would greatly enjoy.

The fact that my first "cross-post" was deleted was frustrating but understandable. I get there have to be rules. But you know what, rules only work if you use them correctly. So when I went back and deleted the original post AND re-wrote the replacement post I figured that all would be OK.

But no, despite there now being only one post (which was deliberately and substantially modified to make it obvious that I was not simply putting up the same post again and again) it was still deleted by the mods. No questions, not checking, just frankly a Big Brother approach to forum law and order. Volunteer or not that was not very impressive.

So yes, a full sense of humour failure for sure, but if you are going to delete someone's posts multiple times because you can't be arsed to find out of it really is a "cross-post" then you are going to get feedback.

In this instance I chose a rather inflammatory metaphor which I agree was not charming - but then I was not feeling particularity charming. It's an imposed authority thing. Ho Hum, someone else can devote some time trying to bring a bit of joy and art to this forum and I'll just keep an eye out for stupid number plates or something and post about that.

Why is the "mods are volunteers" chestnut always rolled out when someone is critical of a mod's decision?

Have PH had a mod recruitment campaign running in the background recently - I know many are "known moderators" but it's not exactly a "Badge" you get under your name so many are not known.

I ask because there have been some very strange moderation moves happening recently - just wondered if that was down to new mods finding their feet (or not as the case maybe)

It gets rolled out when someone is being aggressive and abusive, not just because someone is being critical. If I were still a moderator, would I give up a couple of hours of my free time to have a public argument? No chance. They literally don't get paid to deal with this st.

Whether or not you agree with a particular decision is irrelevant. Just like the marshals at a race circuit, they are performing a vital service for the love of it. Without them, the site that you love would cease to function. In my book that means they should be treated with a certain amount of respect.
