A quick google shows that Speed Watch "tickets" aren't worth worrying about but can anyone tell me if they need a reply of some sort.

I moved house and it seems one of my cars is still registered at my old address, the purchaser has told me that I got a "ticket" but as it was community speed watch he threw it away - so I've not seen it.

Nah - it's 'education', not enforcement.

We got one recently. Bloke that runs it lives out back of us in the old farmhouse. I see him flying up the (30) road the other day at about 60. Felt it only right and proper to inform him that if another letter arrived, it would be inserted into a certain orifice of his, and ignited.

I don't disagree with it in the main, but if it applies to me, it applies to him.

Thing is, plod can't do enforcement and speed watch at the same time. He knows he has 0% chance of getting a ticket

I would, but it's my neighbour that runs them and I will be diplomatic.

He's more likely to catch his son though, to be fair.

I've got none up my neck of the woods sadly. Just the school kids waving twenties plenty signs occasionally but I think that program is actually manned by an officer (possibly a special).

I think if you end up with more than a couple of letters through the door you might get a knock at the door with some advice from an officer.

Even though they can't get you a ticket, if the did complain to the police about persistent 'offending' could that lead to a s59?

I was thinking the same thing, I believe (might be wrong?) the police can prosecute some driving offences based on members of the public as witnesses

Anecdotally, our local PSCO does a speedwatch campaign from time to time.

She said that letters were sent out at 36mph and above, and you would get a personal visit if you got 2 letters at speeds of 42mph or above whilst in the same campaign period.

In my mind I'd say the same too, but imagine the reality would be grovelling and apologising, before going out at 41 mph next time too wink

I don't get the angst of PH with regard to CSW. They are often there for a genuine reason. Every time, someone posts ahh but I saw them doing a gazillion mph. I call bks.

Some people want sensible driving where they live. Is that so bad?

i had one of these at a time i was not anywhere near the area
so wrote back asking for the name of the person libeling me so i could take action
reply received from police saying they had investigated and was satisfied it was me at that time etc
i then replied back asking how it could have been me at this time as i was at the coroners court on the day in question giving evidence has an apology back when they realized it couldn't have been me but what if i couldn't have proved so.
the letter i got basically was telling me that they were sure it was me and i was lying when i said it wasn't.

if you give the geriatrics the gun and a clipboard at least make sure they eyesight is up to reading the number plates

There is a serious issue with these things and the geriatric's that operate them in my experiance.

Our local one I passed at bang on 30mph sat nav, was flashing between 23 and 29 erratically while i approched and passed at a steady speed.

I then did go through one in another village, hands up I was naughty and doing 35mph sat nav speed when I went through. I got sent a letter saying I was doing 39mph. Absolutely no ways was I doing 39, I knew it was a 30mph limit and had just drifted over but never to 39. Telematics showed I was infact doing 34mph, my sat nav said 35...They reported me for 39mph

I then got another letter a couple months later saying I had been caught 2 more times at the same place...both days we could prove with telematics I was no where near there and in fact on site all day at a job 30 miles in the opposite direction. Incidently the second and third 'offence' was on different days but EXACTLY the same time and speed as the first offence.

A strongly worded letter to the police and we got an apology. How many other people get these letters for incorrect speeds and wrong number plates is something to be questioned.

1.I teach my kids how to cross the road properly.
2.The limits are getting ridiculous now, road near me used to be 60,then went to 40,now 30.They don't know when to stop.
3.The old one of-I can do the speed limit after 10 pints.Nothing beats a real policeman.
