I have a Golf, still under warranty. On the boot edge there is a plastic trim running across the car, where the hatch lock fits into the car there is a hinged flap, spring loaded. I think that this is standard practice on all VW haltches.

The hinge on mine has failed and I thought that it would a regular replacement under warranty. The main dealer has agreed that it has failed, they couldnt do anything else. but say that it must be something that I have done and suggested that I had dragged something out of the boot and caught the flap as I had done so, breaking it off If that was the case I think i would have realised it and accepted responsibility.

Is the failure of the hinge on this flap a common problem?

The pic isnt my car BTW.

Seen a few. normally because the customer has inadvertently shut the tailgate on something laugh

It's a plastic "door" with a spring. If it is all lined up as it should be why would it suddenly break without any external reason?

Thanks for coming back to me Rich.

You are correct, the hinge should not break in normal use but then I am also certain that I have not closed the boot with anything in the way.

I have had the entire trim replaced now and hopefully it will not happen again.
