Finally done it...
Discussion
After spending the last 3 months solid, hunting down a 911, moving from new 997 to 98/99 996, then back to 997 etc, I finally settled on a face-lift 996, 02/02 C4 :-).. I was all set on getting an old one to tide over till 997s have taken the initial hit in 18months or so, then came across a midnight blue c4 at a dealers with GT3 kit (although spoiler looks more Turbo than GT3)... Very nice spec:
Midnight Blue Exterior
Metropol Blue Interior
18" 'Carrera' alloys with Brand new tyres
S/S entrance panels
Aluminium gearshift/handbrake
Electric Leather Sports Seats
Self Dimming Inner/Outer/Rear view mirrors
Rain Sensors
Litronic Lights with cleaning
Rear Wiper!?
Rear Park Assistance
PSM
PCM with Sat/Nav/Phone
Bose High End Sound
Cd Multichanger
GT3 Front/side with 'turbo' spoiler
Sports Exhaust (No button
)
30,000miles
1st owner AFN, then 1 private.
After OPC check, they noticed a few minor scuffs under skirts which apparently is normal, and needed new tyres all round to finish. Agreed would put on warranty for £725.
Drove like a dream. Far more communicative than I imagined, and if not pushed, very quiet even with exhaust, but when foot goes down, what a sound :-) ..So after that I couldn't resist. After a bit of haggling agreed on £46.500 which is pretty reasonable, even though I aimed for lower.. Was going to do cash deal, but after being brickwalled by dealer saying buyers lining up for this spec I paid £31.500 cash, and £15k finance in an attempt to save pennies for property to offset the depreciation
Pickup tomorrow, can't wait.. Will post piccies when get back from extended blast....

"save pennies for property to offset the depreciation"
I'm no expert but I'm sure that by the time property becomes a 'good buy' again the porker will be long forgotten. Sorry, I'm a self confessed property BEAR
Personally, I bought a porker to save the depreciation of a house!
Besides, houses don't corner very well, they're a pig to get on a track and can be rented for 1/3 of the cost of 'owning'. Also, I can live in my porker if required.

Yep, very happy I waited, nearly went for a low spec black/black at £1k less from OPC, but actually prefer this colour aswell..
Still noticing nice touches like windows auto opening/shutting an inch when using doors..
Just getting used to driving style compared to point and cruise 540 I had!...

In a word, involving
..
It reminds me of my old pug 1.9 gti, very edgy and informative.. To behonest, mid/high range does not really feel much faster than the 540, but up to 80/90 it feels rapid and solid, I've tried to unsettle it a few times with PCM off to get a feel for limits, and so far found myself going round corners faster than expected..
Def. recommend, but it was painful holding back for right spec..

Very nice. The spoiler is an optional "Carrera" spoiler and and looks great on the 996 IMHO. I had one fitted to mine at great expense.

Yes I know they are galvanised and I know that they don't rust, but hey, leaving it all covered in salt just AIN'T RIGHT!!!!!!

Nothing wrong with that behaviour at all.
