What is deemed excessive mileage on a 2.7 Cayman?
Would 90,000 with full service history ok
What do you mean by "excessive mileage"? Would 90,000 with full service history ok
(My 2002 Boxster with its 2.7l engine has nearly 300K miles on it. It that "excessive"? I don't htink so. I think of it a good start to one millsion miles.)
What is the MY? Porsche -- I read somewhere -- believes that 6K to 9K miles per year is reasonable mileage. An average above 9K miles per year could be I guess considered "excessive".
There is some kind of a mental thing regarding 100K miles. Seems when a car gets that many miles many prospective buyers are put off. I guess 100,000 miles could be considered "excessive" too regardless of the MY.
if you are looking for a few years of enjoyment with the idea of selling the car and moving on you would want a car with miles low enough you don't cross the 100K mile threshold and stay way below it. The idea of course is you do not take too bad a depreciation hit when you sell the car.
If you are looking for a keeper then higher miles are not so serious although of course you still want to get one in good condition with a good service history.
At 90K miles the car in question could have hundreds of thousands of more miles left albeit it will not cover them without some expense as wear items will require attention as the miles accumulate. And as the miles accumulate almost any moving part becomes a wear item. And some that don't move. I've had to replace the plastic trim that runs along the base of the windshield when the orignal one -- faded to a grey -- cracked and became loose. Cracked from age/exposure.
I sold my beautiful 2003 E46 330ci MSport Cab last year for a smidge over £4k.
125k miles and it was starting to cost money with suspension components, gearbox, etc issues.
BUT... it wouldn't have cost the £40k I spent on my 981 to renew all the worn parts and keep it going for another 125k miles.
Buy new and suffer depreciation.
Buy old and suffer repair bills.
It's an age old conundrum.
