Looking to buy...

Hey guys! It is looking more and more likely that I will be in a financial situation where I can buy myself a Chim this year - although it probably won't be till towards the end of the year. It has been a dream for ages, but whereas previously it was just a pipe dream, for the last year or so I have been seriously considering the feasibility. In that time I've been constantly checking the classifieds (here, autotrader, ebay etc etc) and certainly have a basic understanding of what to look for when I am finally in a situation to start test driving (I haven't gone to look at any yet as I won't want to feel like I'm wasting anyone's time if I'm not in a situation to actually proceed).
One question that I've been mulling over recently is that having seen some cars stay up for sale for ages, would you automatically assume there is a problem? Based on the logic that if it was good (especially if the price is 'right') someone else would have snapped it up? As by way of an example, there is a red chim available from HHC in Northumberland at $11K. If I didn't know that it had been for sale for months I'd probably be interested enough to make the long journey for a test drive. And maybe I'm being unfair, but knowing that it has been available for so long, potentially I would be reluctant to make the journey....
Any thoughts & input would be great!

Saunty, welcome to the Chimaera Forum, all questions are worth asking,,, as this sounds like your first forey into Tvr ownership,, here's a good idea, look up your local Tvr group, they'll meet up usually once a month, here you can talk to people like you who have the real experience of owning and loving one of these cars,, someone will be more than happy to let you experience the car in motion, it's power, braking, etc, also give you the low down on what's really important about taking on a Tvr. Don't be frightened to understand the modded cars, some are well engineered and thus very reliable,,
That way any car you test drive, you'll then have a far better idea of how a good car should be,, very standard cars may require a fair bit of work to upgrade to modern standards, look around as there's plenty of differing specs,, just ask the questions, someone will give you the answers
