Many models have this unit and we have one (retro fitted)in a customers car.

Can someone advise please if this unit controls heating and A/C entirely on its own or is there a separate A/C button?

Does anyone have a suitable wiring diagram for the unit?

Many thanks

The economy button is the 'AC' button - activating 'economy' mode turns off the air-conditioning.

Thanks very much guys. Pretty much as I suspected. I asked the question because I had seen some dash photos where there was also an A/C switch in evidence.

I've a feeling it differs slightly by market (and age). VAG across the group did it differently to the rest of the world but these days they do all have 'AC' instead of 'ECON'.

In case it helps later down the line, vehicles fitted with this system have an inherrant fan fault.

The front radiator fans are two different sizes, and have two speeds. The smaller of the two should run constant at low speed while the A/C is on (ECON mode off), if it doesnt, you already have the start of the isse.

It was convered extensively on the UK-Mkivs forum, but basically, the internal resistors in the fans burn out, and you lose the low speed function that runs when the A/C is on or the car is stationary in traffic etc. Once the low speed on has burned out (set to come on at 92'C) it leaves you the high speed fan (which doesnt kick in until 105'C) and causes it to pulse, which then blows the fuse and you're left with nothing.

Just keep an ear out wink
