Manea ,March , Cambridgeshire
Discussion
Tentatively looking at maybe moving to this general area. The property in Manea just seemed cheaper next to some similar locations , so was wondering if there's a reason why. I'd like some place rural . The more away from the crowds the better.

Oh it's rural all right....
Peterborough people take the piss out of March. March people takes the piss out of Ramsey. Ramsey people take the piss out of Manea people
It's quiet and small. Basically nothing to do at all, ever. You wonder why country folk shag their relatives, visit Manea
No public transport and the roads to the main trunk routes are in a very poor state. Commuting to anywhere would be a ballache.
Having said that, if you want quiet, it may be right up your street. Where else are you considering?
Oh, and don't base your judgement on my opinions, I like being in a city.

Looking to escape the shit filled piss flap that is the multi cultural south east ,edge of London type overcrowded , overpriced , everyone living on top of each other like pigs , Kent/London border.
Cambrideshire or Suffolk would be nice.Rural of course.

There's rural and there's rural!! Manea is cheaper as it's pretty bleak.
Most of the villages to the north of Peterborough are nice. Anywhere with decent commuting links is more pricey obviously.
Best advice would be to plan a day driving around the area and seeing which villages are nice.
Manea, shudder. Still, with the Mepal straight almost next door, you could be sure of making a quick* exit. South cambs is nice, less fenny, but blighted by involving the A14, A428 and so on, not to mention the higher prices due to being Cambridge (and these days, London) commuter belt.

Read all of the above!!!
My parents live in Ramsey, which is cosmopolitan and mountainous compared to fenland proper, after living in Maidstone for the previous 7 years. I lived there myself for 2 years (16-18) and then on and off after that and wouldn't consider living anywhere near there now.
Quiet it is, quiet in a half hour drive each way to a decent sized supermarket or town centre kind of way. Which generally means two hours of extra driving everyweek.
The countryside around there is not countryside in the same way as Kent, there are no footpaths, or many places to walk a dog for example. The fields are almost invisible towerblocks 1/2 mile square.
The roads are pretty abysmal, they subside and undulate on a week by week basis as the ground underneath moves. They are straight, but your speed limit is governed by being spat off sideways from the bumps.
If buying a house, get subsidance and flooding checked in detail. Also don't buy anywhere unsheltered as the winds are ferocious as are the dirt storms, soil picked up by the wind can considerably impede visibility!!
My brother married local and whilst I can't tell tales of inbreeding, there are a huge families in the area who have always lived there and within the smaller villages, a very significant proportion will be related, so don't start slagging people off in pubs.

I will echo all of the above comments. There are some nice villages around Peterborough but I would be tempted to have a drive around before I decided to settle in one (especially Manea)

Now that's a bloody good idea... A blat around the local lanes taking time to slow down and have a look at the villages. Mind you, if we do go near Manea, I may have to take the Nissan though, I'm sure the Porker would ground out on the bumps
I'm up for it, but I can only do every other weekend as I have the kids.

Up until two years ago, I had lived in the Southend (Essex) area all my life (44 years at that time) and moved to Norfolk with the wife and kids - best thing we ever did for all of us. Had similar reasons as you give, plus many more and we know lots of people doing (or have already done so) the same as us and have met people who did it years ago. Nothing`s perfect of course but it`s a damn sight closer than where we were
