Just a thought!
Discussion
Just a thought but US buyers of GT4s seem to be getting all excited over receiving their vehicles somewhat earlier than expected: roughly by about a week or two. I also believe some UK purchasers may also have been surprised by earlier than promised delivery dates. Now, factor in naughty OPC rumours of the provision of additional allocations to come, apparently to be announced at or following the Geneva Motor Show. Add all these happy conjunctions together, shake – not stir, & it’s quite easy to come to the rather 'silly' conclusion that Porsche may be engineering spare factory capacity to fulfil the desire of some of those with deposits itching for a shiny new GT4.
Wishful thinking?? Possibly.
Please feel free to discuss: just a thought, mind!!

I preordered the GT4 just before the announcement and have followed this for a while now. Still haven't received my car (PTS, February delivery). It may make me a sad being in some pistonheader's eyes but I do wonder how the production numbers will affect the residuals. Not for myself because I don't plan to sell the car but for others who bought the car hoping it would hold its value.
Particularly if it's true that they are currently producing more GT4s than Cayman GTS, S and non-S combined. I reckon it'll be a while until we have semi-official production numbers.

OPC's literally know bugger all.
Before the car was announced, I asked if I placed a deposit would I get a car...."no idea yet, we have deposits but no idea on allocations" blah blah blah.
Car announced.........."We have too many deposits, no chance of a car".
More cars come through....."Sorry, they went to other depositors"
Even more cars come through....."No chance now, all sold out"
And then even more if the OP is correct.......but you still can't call an OPC and get a confirmed slot.....
Basically, the OPC's know zero......then all of a sudden they get a slot or a cancellation and it goes to their mate, the person at the top of their list or the guy that has just walked in 5 minutes ago.....there are lot and lots of examples in the GT4 and Spyder threads of people getting cars really late in the process with no deposit down or relationship with the OPC....they just asked at exactly the right time!

Hi All,
The above are relevant comments, each with a slightly different slant &/or agenda.
I think it's a win win situation for dear old Porsche ("as ever" I hear off stage). By leaving spare future capacity, without allocating it to a specific model, they can fill the hole with whatever is in demand, ongoing. The 718 bombs - make more Macans/GT4s. If the 991.2 fails to launch as projected - take up the slack again with 'in demand' vehicles. Why kill a vehicle like the GT4 which is in such demand & of low, low initial production: <GT3 numbers, I believe.
If it was my business (pause to wipe my tear-filled eyes, as it's sadly not), that's the sort of thinking I would bring to the boardroom: it keeps ravenous demand up whilst not actually promising anything: also keeps customers with said 'in demand vehicles' happy as well ( at least in the short-term until the next big flipper arrives): plus keeps Porsche firmly in the car buying publics eye: whilst protecting workers employment.
Simples!!
As a disclaimer, I do have skin in this debate having a dormant GT4 deposit glowing in the back pocket of my local dealership. No other car floats my crutons like the GT4, nor is remotely likely too. Ferraris are too showy, Astons too lardy, GT3s performance mostly redundant in the UK (yes I am aware of the GT4s long gearing issue - I am a CGTS owner), besides I've been smitten by Porsches for too long now to be tempted elsewhere. Sad, I know.
