Looking at 993 C2 - wide or narrow body?
Discussion
Price diff seems to be around 40k, but as you say finding a good one is difficult which would mean you may have little choice.
For me the WB looks 'wrong' in many ways - apart from being too fat at the rear, the sills stick out like two sore lips, and the rear bumper/PU has an extra 'step' in it to make the dimensions match - all too clumsy for my eyes.
The fact that the suspension underpinnings on both cars are exactly the same, and the wheels at the back simply stick out further to line-up with the bodywork (either have a 25mm spacer or a different offset) makes the engineering 'wrong' as well.

I much prefer the simplicity of the narrow bodied 993. Price differences between the narrow and wide bods (like for like) is about 20%ish.
Originality is key, and this lovely example caught my eye

My view is that with these cars at 20 years old the most important facet is a full service history with all the stamps in the service record. It's quite common for there to be OPC stamps for the first few years or so but after that I would think it is quite normal to have indies carrying out the servicing. If it has been well looked after in terms of servicing then it should have been looked after! Does anyone think that for a 20 year old car you need all the service receipts with the stamps setting out all the work done?

Stamps are fine but only mean oil and filters. What you want are invoices for major work done recently, addressing the usual age related 993 issues.
My C4 has a service book full of stamps from OPC's in the early years and later indys but the real story is told in the binder full of receipts everything from a wiper blade or a battery to a full suspension upgrade or cam cover gasket replacement. Spending a bit of time piecing together what has been done and when not only tells you about the car it also tells you about the owner which in turn tells you more about the car and how it's been loved or not!!
Back on original topic, I prefer the wide body but bought the right narrow one for the right price and have never looked back, I wouldn't swap my sorted narrow for an unknown wide, even with the increased value potential, they are all increasing in value faster than the average man can afford, I probably couldn't justify buying mine now with an estimated value of £50k+ but luckily for me it's sat in the garage waiting for the next half decent day.

Went the high mileage, lots of specialist service history route last year, as it was what I could afford - which ended up being a narrow body C2.
Would echo the above - buy on service history/money it's had spent on it, and buy the best you can afford. As for the wiper, I did the wiper delete, cleaner looks, and no more broken wiper anxiety at £150 a pop!
Steering rack leak would be something I would also check - 20+ years old - I think many are due a leak, based on what the rack specialist told me.
