What's the Tiptronic box like in the S5, is it generally Ok or best avoided? I've had a trio of 6-speed DSGs recently and wondering how similar it would be. Any common issues or preventative maintenance required?

Looking at early-ish (circa 2009) examples. Seem to be a lot of 2007/ 2008 Manuals for sale and then loads of newer Automatics.

As hard as nails. Smooth, reliable, and needs virtually no maintenance. Audi says nothing at all but an oil change at 100k is probably a good bit of preventative maintenance.

Lacks the instant shifts of an S-Tronic box but by no means a slouch.

Early cars are all manuals.

given the choice, manual every time.

it's nothing like DSG, it's basically a conventional slushbox, fine if that's what you like, but IMHO has no place in anything supposedly sporty.

Well just to close this of, I got one! biggrin

08-plate Tiptronic in Quartz Grey with Black leathers. Nice spec with Nav, Cruise, Bluetooth, KESSY, Heated seats, Parking+, Interior light pack and Auto dimming mirrors. Only thing its missing really is B&O.

Done 300 miles so far and loving it. Pleasantly surprised with 28mpg too! I'll take some pics over the weekend...

Sorry, pedantic pet-hate but the term 'leathers' makes my teeth itch roflmad

28mpg???? How??? Just how? I have the manual V8 and can maybe nudge that figure pootling on the motorway. Most of the time 15 is the figure I see if I'm feeling brave enough to look at the OBC.

I wasn't trying at all! I was making full use of the quattro and 355bhp, including a fast launch from the M6 tolls biggrin

From first full tank I've done 300 miles and its still showing 25 miles remaining on the DIS. I didn't buy it for the economy though as keeping my GTD for that.

First job is a set of new rear tyres this weekend then the real fun will start!

Best I've done is a tickle under 31 on the computer; Aberdeen to London (including stretching its legs where conditions allow).

They're thirsty but only really horrible in urban stuff.
