Help the boot release catch came off in my hand !
Discussion
This morning my S1 went in for it's MOT (@ a vauxhall dealership, I know I know my bad). No drama's, oh how I smiled well that is until the chap mentioned the boot cable was loose. Nooo it was'nt lose but severed by which time I had shut it. So has anyone replaced the cable themselfs I think there about £25, also any nifty tips on opening the engine cover, I beleive I need to get my hand up under the wheel arch and fool around, also any good site which will give me visual aids??? Please help somebody!
Hi mate,
I recently did full (2 x cambelts) service on my 111s and decided to go all the way and remove the clam. The cable exits the door pilar and is routed over the OSR wheel lining. Contrary to popular belief, it is not necessary to resort to major surgery to fix a broken cable.
If you can, remove the wheel lining, it will make access to the cable dead easy (it's possible to 'gently' bend the lining out sufficiently to gain access). Cut the old cable inner/outer and yank the outer cable out. Then a good tug on the inner cable (all from within the wheel arch) should open the boot.
You'll then be able to disconnect the old cable and replace with a new one.
Hope this helps.
