Sex pest, 64, facing prison and deportation
A SEX pest asylum-seeker will be deported on his release from jail after a judge told him: "We've already got enough sex offenders here."
Lodi Omafudu was jailed for stalking a terrified teenage waitress on a bus before groping her.
Judge David Bentley QC said: "You have got no ties to this country. We have got enough sex offenders of our own in this country rather than keeping you here when you have abused our hospitality."
"This is a case where I ought to make a recommendation that you are deported."
Omafudu, aged 64, from the Republic of Congo, denied sexual assault but was convicted by a jury who were shown CCTV footage of the incident on May 4 last year.
Des Rosario, prosecuting, said Omafudu spotted the 17-year-old girl at a bus stop and began making lewd gestures and suggestive comments to her. When the bus arrived, Omafudu followed her on and sat next to her, moving from seat to seat as she tried to escape.
CCTV footage taken on the bus showed Omafudu cornering her before groping her thigh. The bus driver radioed through to police.
The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was forced to sit through a four-day trial as Omafudu maintained his innocence.
The case was adjourned for sentencing after the jury found Omafudu guilty to give the Crown time to serve a deportation order.
Omafudu made an application for asylum in Britain in 1991. His bid failed but the Home Secretary gave him leave to remain in the country until March this year.
Gurdial Singh, defending, said Omafudu, had no previous convictions in Britain.
