New camera for my mum - suggestions needed
Discussion
Hi all.
Pretty simple really my mum needs a new camera. However there is a slight twist.
As she is not a spring chicken anymore (I'm 81, you know.)& she is very set in her ways and cannot get on with a camera that hasn't got a viewfinder. Apart from that and easy to use controls, it just needs to take pictures, nothing sophisticated at all. But from a quick look round my town centre it appears that all the cameras with viewfinders are now way over her budget which is about £100.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Seems like a fair swap.
Seriously though, the viewfinders on sub £100 quid cameras are horrible things, the Canon powershot viewfinders are a complete joke, the rear screens are much better.
About the only one I can think of that isn't completely terrible is the fuji x10 / x20 , outside your budget but a lovely retro look and great images.

You see that's what's brilliant about PH. I spend an hour trying to find 'compact cameras for under £100 with a viewfinder' on google and you recommended that one and its ideal for my mum. She won't mind if the viewfinder is brilliant, it's just that she needs that for re-assurance. Hopefully I'll get her to use the screen in time. However, the bad news is that I need a new camera as well and that advert linked to a very good deal on a Panasonic DMC-LF1EB-K Lumix..... My poor debit card...
Anyway thanks for the advice, I'll return to say if she likes it soon.

Well, the reason I asked is that eBay will be awash with perfectly decent 35mm film compacts with nice big optical VFs from £10 upwards.
Thanks for the thought but she is totally switched over to digital now. She even copied all her slides onto her PC. (Without any help from me!)The Hypno-Toad said:

Not sure if you noticed, but the Canon uses AA size batteries. My Mum is useless with charging things so having AA power is a big plus for her. Your Mum sounds way more tech capable than mine, so you may want to get some rechargeables.

Good spot. I will invest in a charger and some rechargeables for her. Not sure if you noticed, but the Canon uses AA size batteries.
