I've decided to get back into flying after a few years away, but have chosen to go back to the beginning with gliders - I realised over Christmas that it's the most fun I've had for the money from the things I've done and I've found a gliding club at Kingston Deverill is just 20 mins from me. Does anyone know it? It goes by Bath Wilts & North Dorset Gliding Club.

Yes I've flown with them. Nice spot, winch or aero-tow. I intended to take it up properly but with young kids it was a bit indulgent and just a smidge too far from Bristol.

Good info - I'm getting back into it as my sons just turned 18 months and I need just a day here and there for myself.

Great time to start, cold for a while but nice visibility, fewer thermals to distract you and evenings getting lighter. The early training flights will seem like a sleigh ride but make the most of them.

I love the camaraderie of it all, you get all sorts at the clubs and everyone needs to pitch in.

It does take up your time though and once you get to cross country you'll be looking for £5-10k to buy a share or your own glider wink

I'd be looking for an outright purchase - but I have my eye on a very well equipped, albeit older, Cirrus in the £10-12k region. Compared to other things I've been involved in it's incredible value. I've also noticed that at the top end since I was last involved the gliders are a) stunning, b) extremely expensive!
