My phone has started to tell me how long it will take to get home or to an address uninvited. All well and good as its normally linked to my diary.

However last night it told me it was 20 minutes to the road that the pub is on. The arrangement was made by text mentioning only the word pub, not the address or the name

So how does this witchcraft work?

Mine has never done it, but a guy in works does. Hes not even the type to tell his phone where work is, in fact I think he actively hates his phone and the only reason he puts up with it is to have planet rock on. His started telling him time to work and time to home when he didn't tell the phone where he lives or where he works. We moved office just before Christmas and his phone knows that to! We assumed it would recognise a pattern of going somewhere every day, but if he worked nights it would be backwards.

2 things

1. Your phone is spying on you.
2. Your phone is smarter than you are.

Mine tells me when I need to leave the house to make my flight, even adjusts for expected delays. If I put the location of my meeting into the diary it tells me when to leave, no matter where I am, to be able to get to the meeting which has saved my bacon a few times. Texts are linked like every other app.

I know people are scared of these things collecting all their info but I'm more than happy when it means it can help me out so much.

A friend was showing me his phone and how it helps him get home from work. It figured out where he lives and where he works. So when I bought the same phone I immediately turned location settings off. I'm not one for social media ether, but we won't get into that here.Everything makes me feel like I'm being watched.

I chain my phone down at night, with a squadron of teddy bears armed with scalpels guarding it.nuts

I don't really mind it, but on this occasion I am fascinated.

The pub used to be every Thursday, but over recent months has become far less regular. The address, or pub name was not mentioned in the text, just 'pub' and the time.

Somewhere someone has been very clever.

I'd imagine that it has somehow remembered that you've used that particular pub regular. Then stored it under a keyword 'pub'. It's just picked up on it in your text to a friend. Sounds simple, but mighty clever.

More logically its probably aliens

It does learn locations, I can ask mine verbally what time the coffee shop closes and it tells me. It doesn't ask what coffee shop because it knows which one I use all the time. The problem is that now I get frustrated by it's limitations, it can't automatically buy presents for family members when it's their birthday even though it can remind me about them, it can't cook or clean and it's rubbish in bed. It does assist with those things though wink

If you use Google maps with an account then that logs your movement. If you dig through the various maps menus you can view your journeys since you accepted their t+c''s

Nice.
