Had a test drive in a 981 Boxster this morning and I'm smitten.

However, the car I looked at did not have the isofix option so did not have the switch to disable the airbag. Is there a way to do it? I see various parts online, but it's not 100% clear if they are compatible with the 981.

Thanks

Can be added after market at an OPC as I understand it, about £120 I think I read.

Slight thread hijack, but while we're on the subject: I have bucket seats in my 981. Can an OPC install the airbag off button without putting in the isofix (our seat doesn't need it) so I can put our child seat in?

Best ring your OPC, it's a lot more than that to retrofit it to 981 - way more than the 987 which I think is the price mentioned. I did same when buying and I ended up paying a very reduced rate of £300. It involves a new part on the roof to show airbag is off, keyswitch in glovebox and obviously all the wiring so is quite labour intensive frown

I did the isofix retrofit myself, it's about 2-3 hrs work; replace roof centre console part, remove seat and fit isofix bar, remove glovebox and run/connect cable.

Bear in mind the website cost doesn't include the the new roof centre console part which was £200+ from memory.

As you're new to Ph I'd better explain how things work round here. People dont actually do any work on their own cars they just talk about the possibility of doing it. Now this is especially so with modern Porsche cars and owners. So if you wish to fit in then you need to keep these heroic actions to yourself or you risk the fear of making us all look bad.

Thanks

Lol, F355 Spider actually back when they were more sensibly priced <wistfullook> That said, nothing adds a bit of excitement like knowing that if something goes wrong you're going to have a pretty mega bill hehe

Check you out.

I did watch a you tube video showing how to access the engine on a 981. This was when I noticed there is no clam shell like the earlier Boxsters. It got me thinking that maybe the engine is only accessible if you drop it out.

Back on topic...

I'm getting the Isofix kit fitted to my 981 BGTS, IIRC the full price quoted was in excess of £800. Also, the OPC wouldn't just fit the airbag switch so it was the full Isofix kit (bar, roof panel, switch etc).

Yes back on topic is good. I do have a daughter who is nearly 4. Which is why I found this thread. I like the idea of being able to put her in the Boxster but for £800 I'd rather use another car. Once she is big enough and just needs a booster cushion then can she go in the Boxster if it does not have any of these airbag switches etc?

Porsche say in the user manual that children need to weigh over 27kg before you can leave the airbag on. I reckon that is about 9 years old.

I would ask your OPC and also a good Indy what they would actually charge. I bought my car new and the OPC have been very understanding that I'm really annoyed I missed it off the options and are therefore fitting the kit at a good price (but still not as cheap as the option would have been).

Shortly due to become a parent for first time and I was going to get the passenger airbag switch option added next time my 981 is at opc for service but like others here I'm hesitant to pay 800 + for the privilege.

Is it a legal requirement to have the airbag deactivated for a forward facing seat? I read the Porsche guidance says up to 27kg it should be switched off. if it's not a legal requirement could I just install the isofix bar and not require the new overhead console?

Just had this installed on my 981S last week at an OPC in the North (not sure if you're allowed to mention them by name). £480.

Is that the full option with airbag switch or just the isofix bars?

The lot, switch in glove box, isofix thingies into the seat. Not sure what else was involved, they're the bits I can see.

I'm struggling to get close to this and have rung 2/3 centres, are you able to let me know which one you used?
