I spotted this fully restored 1958 356A Speedster for sale through Jeffry Classic Cars in Semarang, Indonesia. The chap has provided a COA and a catalogue of pictures including all matching numbers. The car was advertised in Classic Porsche Mag with similar adverts running in Motor Sport and Speedsters.com for another 56 car.

They were very quick in providing all the information I requested and suggested a 50% deposit would secure the car with the balance due on sight of shipping documents.

I suggested I would rather the Porsche Centre in Jakarta handle the whole thing for me and that I'd put them in funds to complete the deal and ship the car to me in the UK.

I've since heard nothing from them and can't reach the number on their website. Has anyone heard of or had any dealings with them. Naturally I wouldn't want anyone let alone myself throw a heap of cash into the Indian Ocean.

Very well known scam. Under no circumstances send any money. Try and Google the text, I bet car is in USA.

How do we educate the uneducated to stop genuine people getting caught out. It's horrible to think that some poor chap could pick up "Classic Porsche Mag" and get sucked in by these crooks. Is there a high hitting website for scams we could raise alerts on. The worrying thing is that to the untrained eye they have a passable website.

OP did you think it was real at any time? I can't quite work that out.

There's also the poor guy who bought a 65 911 from a dealer in the US only to find it's a mongrel of 67 vintage with obviously (after he got it to the UK) a new VIN being welded in and all kinds of ste going on.

But why oh why would you spend that much money without independent verification of the car?

Speedster.com wrote back to me saying they had no reason to believe they weren't genuine despite the low price. That car is easily worth 3 if not 5 times the money so yes, this had all the hallmarks of a scam.

Here's a typical example of where these guys can get all the convincing material they need to pull off a scam.

http://fantasyjunction.com/cars/1743-Porsche-356A%...

I hope this little thread grows some legs because these guys are advertising quite widely and someone could get caught out. It's heart breaking to hear about the guy expecting delivery of a 911 and a dodgy Morgan turns up.

Back to the drawing board

Similarities to the guy from Luxembourg with the concourse E-Type drop head for 50K who was sick of time wasters and demanded a 20% deposit before arranging a viewing.

I recently homed in a a Toyota 2000 Gt that was obviously a "bargain".

However when I googled the actual text of the ad the very same car and photographs were to be found on the fantasyjunction site.

And yes I was secretly harbouring dreams of buying a fabulous million $$$ car for the price of a new golf........shattered dreams as ever.
