From the front of the Car Club site:

"Important: the password to access the members' area changed on Tues. 15th February 2005.
For details of the new password, please check the bottom of page 1 of February Sprint."

Well lets ask them again - can't see why they won't.

Ah I see, it says that on the front page, but on the login page (where you actually need to see it) it says 15th November!

Not sure I even received a February Sprint!

Hi,

The reasons why the password is not emailed out by the webmaster;

1) The webmaster does not have a list of current TVRCC members and so cannot verify that the email is from a member.

2) The webmaster is not in the employ of the TVRCC and is not be paid to perform such services for the members.

Its not all bad news, ring the club office and they will sort out any problems.

Cheers

Richard

or email me and I will help,

and I have asked that the next password is easier to spell, I have it on a post-it note by the computer or I can't log in....

just grabbed the February issue of sprint: the old password on black background, the new one on red - neither of which work.

Frankly, I don't understand this password policy: one password for all, printed in the TVRCC magazine, that's security through obscurity, if secure at all.

If there is really a need for protection (I did not see any top secret stuff) why can't we either:

- mail all members (the TVRCC has got a user database I reckon), that's done by the TVRCC, not the webmaster (or someone who volunteers)
- set up a proper system with password protection, I'd be happy to help.

Edited to say the new password works

Glad to hear the password works for you...

The TVRCC does not have a database of email sddresses yet... if it did things could be done differently...

Would it not be easier if we could log in using our own name and our membership number? That way the club would also get a good idea of how many and who uses the site.

Have to agree with the others that I don't use the members area anywhere near as much as I could as I tend not to have Sprint handy at all times, especially in the office which is where I normally log in from.

Even if they had a database of email addresses it wouldn`t work until the spellchecker was switched on

Yes it would, we asked the web designer a few months ago, unfortunately the off the shelf package that the website is built in cannot do it.

I have cookies enabled for the website and NEVER have to enter a password or user id except when they change. The TVRCC site uses cookies in the same way as the PH site to enable automatic login each time you enter the site. Are you deleting the cookies or refusing to accept them?
