As the americans would say, pork barrel UK style?

It's such a waste of money, if commuters in London want to see trees then they only have to go home and walk their dog in the suburbs.

It reminds me of the Dubai vanity projects so much.

If built it'll just be a more picturesque night time dogging and cottaging site.

This is simply a coincidence...... Otherwise the population of this country would be being shafted every which way and let them get away with it...

Private Eye have been banging on about this for some time, despite promises of free access by the public, access will be strictly restricted and controlled; daytime only, limited numbers allowed on at any time and it'll be closed when private events are in progress.

Funny to hear Boris squirming while being asked about the Garden Bridge project earlier.

It would seem that the Tories possibly aren't the most trustworthy bunch. Who knew?

Finbar Saunders is alive and well.

Original plans were for a drawbridge to allow yachts through but they had problems getting it up.

This isn't a surprise is it? Who honestly thought the process wasn't bent?

This is all hype and exaggeration. I feel certain that this project is no more corrupt or dishonest, no more backhanders were given, than any other expensive project run by local councils. Anyone who says otherwise has never read Private Eye nor had anything to do with such things.

The suggestion that a project which, at £175,000, was picked above rivals, none of which exceeded £125,000, or that an inexperienced designer was chosen over those much more experienced is in any way unusual just shows these people don't know what the= are talking about.

Heh, I should read my posts carefully (or even just read them) before I actually post them. But it actually reads more like the Derek and Clive 'Private Member' sketch...

Would it not have made more sense to build a new east London crossing instead of this?

Only if you were the type of Mayor that didn't enjoy punishing the non-Tory voting areas of the capital.

Luckily, London is getting a garden bridge that isn't just a vanity project. The Peckham Coal Line.

http://peckhamcoalline.strikingly.com/

It is south of the river though, so I'm not sure Boris will want to go there.

That's ok - as long as there's no gnoming or docking.

And just for the record before I get banned or de-platformed, there's nothing wrong with gnoming or docking between consenting adults.

I am so not Googling either of those terms. Figging was bad enough.

Cottaging = anonymous meet up sex between gay men. (urban dictionary)
Docking = stretching your foreskin over the head of another mans penis. (urban dictionary)
Gnoming - google turned up squat, apart from stealing peoples garden gnomes laugh

You're welcome ;-)
