Drooling cat

New cat today, freaked us out a bit by drooling and dribbling a fair amount when we got her home - three occasions, maybe once an hour, seems happy inbetween. She had a flea/worm treatment behind her neck before they gave us to her, is that the most likely explanation?

She also had a little bit of paté before we realised it had milk and a tiny bit of port in it - is the flea explanation more likely?

Turns out it is the flea treatment (Broadline). Got a video of the cat sitting perfectly fine for 10 minutes - licks the back of its neck and immediately has a waterfall of drool. Same thing this afternoon - rubbing against legs and wanting its head scratched; then licked the back of its neck, drool straight away, and within 30 seconds had charged at my wife before staring us out.

Anyone know if this stuff would come off with a damp sponge? Can't carry on like this. :-/

Worth a try. Sounds like the treatment was put on too far down.

One of my cats drools all the time when she's happy, it goes quite stringy and when she realises and shakes her head it loops over her forehead and under her chin, looks a bit like a helmet strap, pretty gross at times though

The mother-in-laws cat is the same. It will try to lick the flea treatment and if he manages it becomes a drool monster. It'll wear off soon enough. I suspect a better location (away from the lickable zone), and making sure it's applied on to the skin not on top of the fur helps avoid the problem.

Happned to our cat, put in in reach of her, she licked it and went mental, drooling, frothing. thhe instrucions do say its very bitter to taste.

dont worry about it just let it sink into the coat and they will learn to stop licking it.

next time make sure its applied right at the base of their head.

Our Magnus (NFC) dribbles when he zones out in a fuss-session. He'll clonk down for a belly rub, enjoys his whiskers (where they join his face) being rubbed and when you hit a sweet spot you can see the eyes glaze over ..... and then he dribbles. Nice.
