Excuse my ignorance here but I'm so confused with xxx number of different types of getting "done" these days that I'm now in a state of mind where they've all jumbled into one and I dont know what means what any more.

Basically, I was on the M62 yesterday sitting in the middle lane (as the traffic was slight and travelling at a good speed ahead). I notice in the distance a roadside Police Volvo on a "Police Hill". I look down and see I'm sitting quietly on 80-85 (hard to judge true speed as GPS wasnt on). Now, my worry is....if a BiB is on the side of the motorway and sees a car doing said speed, does he just log it and send it on to hit me with 3 points and £60 or do they have to pull you? Please help.....another 2 weeks of worry

I have driven past Police cars on motorways at 90mph and they haven't got me. You should be OK.

It is unlikely you will get stopped on motorway unless doing crazy speeds. Over 100mph is very risky.

Most risk are dual carriageways, and scameras on bridges.

police observing traffic from a 'platform' on the motorway, from a CAR will generally have either a pro-laser or be using VASCAR.

Some forces do use cameravans on platforms, but not many forces.

I think you'll be ok.

However, as motorways are built so that you always have a view of the distance, perhaps you need to expand your observation view point further into the distance, where such 'hazards' might be seen earlier.
Just an idea.

Thanks StreetCop

I'm always on the lookout - looking as far ahead as possible whilst keeping in mind whats right in front of me. This particular area is after a sweeping righthand bend which one may doubt safety at 70 in an old car (!!!) and then down hill (like Paddock Hill bend at Brands Hatch...but not really) and there he was. He was a good half mile away but having been done from that distance by a Laser on a bridge on the M6 I've become paranoid.

Thanks for the info chaps

On the M6, M74 I've often been doing 100+ and seen traffpol on the otherside (I acknowledge their presence slow to 85), but have never had any bother (I guess they have to pull you in most cases) and when they are on the opposite side and miles away from a jct they have no chance. Just don't speed excessively near a junction.

I occasionally work in tandem with a colleague...he does the southbound, while I do the northbound...to combat the 'other carriageway' punters..

However, it's very rare that we work like this...so usually, if the BiB is on the other carraigeway, there's little chance of one being on yours..
