Has anyone seen or heard a BK sub?
Im looking at the P12-300SB - DF(http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woofers/P12300SB-DF.htm) and wondered what people opinions are if they have heard or seen BK products
There seems to be some very good reviews of this sub, but being a complete audionovice, i dont want to over complicate things as im struggling setting up the amp. let alone a sub as well...
MINX22's and 12s for my 5.0 set up with a pioneer vx930 amp
Thanks

I used to have a BK Gemini II in gloss black which I sold to my bro a while ago.
It was fantastic and beautifully made. The only thing I didn't like was the fact it didn't have auto power on so you had to either leave on all the time or remember to switch on/off.
There was one particular scene in band of brothers where a gun was fired in the distance and although it wasn't a loud scene, I could still feel it.
I will get another one at some point.

I'd get at least an XLS400 for that room an XLS200 would be a bit lost IMHO. I have an XLS200 that I use in my conservatory as when I bought it I soon found it wasn't up to filling my 6.5 x 4 metre living room. I upgraded that to a Monolith, which is another option for you, but these days I'd also consider the XTZ subs and Arendal ones mentioned earlier too.
I ended up going DIY as I wanted custom built, but still had to spend a lot more money than the Monolith to get a worthwhile improvement.

The BK subs really take some beating for value. I guess the sheer size and weight of shipping this type of kit about makes it better value to actually manufacture in the UK than the far east. I have got an XXLS400 in one of my systems that is definitely the equal of an SVS SB12+ that I have in the other. The BK is £425 and the new version of the SVS is £600
I'd love to buy one of the PSA subs which are US made units, but the exchange rates and customs make it infeasible over here. They do a sealed 15" model which is $999 in the US and apparently compares favourably to the $1,600 SVS SB13 Ultra.
Unfortunately, one you get it over here with customs etc, the PSA goes up from $999 (c.£700) to £1,225, so it is a bit of a different proposition!

I have an xls400, downward firing, which I've had for about three years, it's in a room 6m x 3m. I don't have to have the level set half way and it will shake the room, (wooden floor). It's very well built and just looks like a table in the corner.
I also have an xls200mk2, downward firing which I've just bought for my cinema room which is 6m x 2.5m. Unfortunately even after soundproofing a sound test from next door has lead me down the route of tactile transducers attached to the couches as the bass can be heard very easily next door, and I don't want to annoy anyone so I'm selling it even though I've only had it a couple of weeks, but I can say even though it's small it packs a decent punch.
Dealing with BK is very easy, just shop online and a few days later your sub turns up. If there are any delivery issues they will email you so your always in the know. I would never buy a sub of any other manufacturer. For the money you pay, you get a lot of bang for your bucks!

I don't want to hijack the thread too much, but can I ask how are you finding the tactile transducers? Which ones do you have? I have literally just fitted one myself last night for similar reasons.I also have an xls200mk2, downward firing which I've just bought for my cinema room which is 6m x 2.5m. I think they are amazing for the money, but I am still trying to dial it in correctly with my sub (SVS SB12+ in that system). Even with a heavy corner sofa and a fairly small 'Buttkicker' it is possible to get the sofa really moving on high intensity, but that is not what I am looking for.
I tried using it with the sub really low and the Buttkicker reasonably high and I think it is great but would take a bit of getting used to. With the sub back to it's normal level and the Buttkicker turned down a bit, it just feels like I have got a much more powerful sub which is great.

I haven't fitted the transducers yet as I only ordered them at the weekend. Finding buttkicker stock at the minute is like finding hens teeth. Managed to get two bk lfes which have just arrived today. One to mount in each two seater recliner. Couldn't get a bk amplifier so went for a crown xls1500. Not sure it will be as good as bks amp but I'll soon find out. I'm really unsure about what to really expect from them. I've read online you have to spend a bit of time dialing them in so they arnt obviously there. Some people swear by them and some people can't stand them so I suppose I'll find out soon enough. I'll report back once I've had them set up and working. Probably be the weekend now as I'm busy with work.
