Any idea what kit this is with its basic front suspension, not even a proper bottom wishbone. Remind me of the setup on a mk2 polo.

I'm not thinking of buying it, just curious!

Looks like it could be a Robin Hood Sub K - http://nw.rhocar.org/identification.htm

This is the sort of poorly designed and engineered disaster that gave RH it's (deservedly) poor reputation. Lots of bending stress on an unbraced cantilever structure, tiny McPherson struts giving limited suspension travel, the original Sierra front anti-roll is re-used which gives far too much roll stiffness. The very heavy Sierra semi-trailing arm rear suspension was also re-used on the Sub-K, but operating at lower ride height which caused camber problems.

The basic kit was originally less than £1000, hence the "Sub-K" name, but by the time they'd sorted out the numerous design flaws (or given up an abandoned it) I suspect most people would have wished they'd paid a bit more for something that had a modicum of sound engineering applied to it's design.

That set up can be made to work with patience ,ok as an ex rh owner I may be biased it is not the best of Richards efforts but there are still a few on the road ,as said the a/rollbar is far to stiff and make the car handle like a tea tray ,the bottom arms are usually std Ford parts , the shocker spring arangment is possibly the weakest link . A wish bone set up was available ,don't know if it still is . Robin hoods were never going to be a Caterthing but once sorted have given lots of fun ,mileage etc to lots of people inc my self 40k miles in 12 years

All the suspension loads fed into a 'structure' over a foot away from a welded joint in single shear.... Not the best design is it.

A double wishbone conversion has been made for this kit and successfully fitted to this type of RH and the sliding pillar version.
A mate fitted it to his after buying the fix front version
He looked at it as a cheap kit that could be improved, so he improved it.

not only poorly designed, it also looks ugly.

the only valuable bit on that car might be the 2.1 pinto engine & the 5-speed box....but who guarantees you that its really bored out to 2.1L?
