Hi All,

Thought I'd give the car a we blast seeing the sun was out. When I got back and parked up did my customary check underneath to see no leaks and guess what, a rather profound leak.

It is fuel and it is coming from the exit point of the fuel tank. This would be the bottom right hand corner if you are looking to the rear of the car.

I thought at worst it would be a slack clip, expecting the hose to fit onto some form of tapered pipe from the fuel tank.

When I got under, the cable going into the fuel tank is covered in black silicone type compound so I cannot see the connection to the fuel tank.

I assume someone has had this issue before and this was the fix and it is not an area of the car I have looked at before.
The car was from a very reputable dealer and recently serviced by a TVR servicing agent.

I know these things just happen but is this the normal way the fuel line is mated to the tank? I cannot find any pictures of the tank in situ, only stock pictures of it out the car.

Anyone able to shed any light on this, the car is with a garage a few minutes from me but they are not experts, more you local tyre/suspension etc type of work.

All help gratefully received, faster the better.

TIA, Martin

Cable??... has the pipe split. Mine did just as it went into the silicon.... easy fix if it has (assuming you don't have a full tank LOL)....

Hi TVR Beaver,
no, the pipe looks ok, the leak is coming from the silicon part , more so when you push on it, so I am assuming this has broken down in some way (if that is at all possible). Does that mean all that silicon is normal then?

Yes I do have a full tank, just filled it up! Wee man at the garage has a pump to remove fuel, assume it can be done from the tank filler?

As above chances are its the rubber hose that has split that comes from the tank. It wouldnt surprise me if its the original hose as well.

Dig all the silicone away and the tank connection will be obvious. Its 12mm internal diameter rubber hose by the way from tank to pump.

If this hose has gone i`d get all the others changed as well.

The silicone doesnt seal the fuel it just fills and seals a hole in the body work where the fuel hose passes through.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Looks like a drain of the tank will be required then to get this sorted and then it does not sound too difficult to reconnect.

We will see what he says when I pop down in the next half hour.

If anyone does have pics , please post up. I've looked through a few rebuild threads but nothing specific to this area of the car was shown in any detail.

Update regarding my pipes.

The leak was where I thought and has now been replaced with some marine pipe and all is good again.
