This happens every year..... As far as I am aware everything is OK. They don't promote the crossing very much, but it always seems to be running.

I have been Newhaven Dieppe every year for the past 5 years and it always threatens closure.

I won't be worrying........

Anyone else going Thursday at 9.00pm??

Accident closes ferry service
TRANSMANCHE Ferries is hoping to get its service between Newhaven and Dieppe back up and running within the next 10 days.

It was suspended following an accident in Dieppe on Friday morning when the MV Dieppe crashed into the harbour wall as it was docking. Serious damage was done to the bow visor – the part of the vessel which opens to allow traffic on and off.
This means both Transmanche ferries are now out of action as the Sardinia Vera is currently undergoing a refit in Antwerp. The company is now actively seeking a replacement vessel until its own ferries are back in service.
Transmanche operations manager Steve Forrest said: 'The only contingency plan we have really is to find another vessel as quickly as possible. At the moment, we are not providing a service to our loyal customers. We have a lot of loyal customers, especially in the freight market.
'The MV Dieppe is still in Dieppe and we are looking for a dry dock for it to go to for repairs.
'My French colleagues are actively looking for a replacement vessel. We could have one here within the next 10 days, enabling us to resume the service.
'It's not really a problem for our staff as we have assigned other duties for them while the service is suspended.'
Transmanche had been in talks with Hoverspeed with a view to taking over its summer service, but Mr Forrest said no agreement had been reached.
Meanwhile, potential Hoverspeed customers have been concerned that this summer's service will not be running, as they have experienced problems trying to book places, prompting Newhaven's Labour Party spokesman, Dr Richard Black, to investigate.
He told the Express he had been assured the route would reopen on March 17 and welcomed this news.
There had been speculation that the company would pull out of the port, and with the two Transmanche ferries currently out of action, this could have left Newhaven without a ferry service.
Hoverspeed have also confirmed that they are to continue talks with Transmanche about transferring the fast ferry service in the longer term.
Dr Black said: 'Both the summer fast ferry, and the all-year Transmanche ferries are vital to the economy of Newhaven, as well as providing an important service to surrounding towns from Worthing to Lewes and Hastings.
'I hope that Hoverspeed and Transmanche can come to an agreement to secure the long-term future of the fast ferry service, but in the meantime, I welcome the announcement that Hoverspeed will continue to run the service this year.
'Last week's accident in Dieppe that has led to both Transmanche boats being out of service is a real problem, and I hope they can be repaired or replaced as soon as possible.'
This is the second time within eight months that this has happened to the MV Dieppe. On July 3, last year, she crashed into the harbour wall at Dieppe, which left a two foot hole in the hull.
An investigation into the incident resulted in the duty officer being suspended and he left the company shortly afterwards.

I do not hold any hope for the Hoverspeed Seacat service - I have spoken to Hoverspeed this morning and they are currently in the process of re-allocating passengers for the Seacat to their Dover-Calais crossing. They will try to offer those that are booked the nearest similar time available, or a full refund.

As far as Hoverspeed are concerned, the Seacat service is cancelled.

Hoverspeed have written to me today transferring my booking to Dover-Calais. A pain in the arse as I live 25 minutes from Newhaven. Pondering whether to take the Transmanche ferry but reliability does not appear to feature in their dictionary!

Likewise, gutted as I only live in Worthing. I think we are going Dover Calais now which I really don't like but the Transmarche ferries aren't suitable for time wise.

Gutted.

I manage to cancel my crossing with Hoverspeed and re-book with Speedferries.com - a quarter of the price. However, it means an extra 2 hrs on the road just in England (let alone France).

Fortunatly I'm going over Wednesday and returning Tuesday - and they (speedferries) have plenty of space left for these days.

Might be an idea to check the prices. Our Newhaven - Dieppe ticket cost £175. Search on the sale section of the Hoverspeed site found that the Dover-Calais version was £50! Therefore phoned and cancelled instead. Got a full refund, and have now booked Dover-Calais. Although going with P & O as wanted slightly earlier croossing. Hoverspeed waanted £75 fot it, P and ) £60, so P and O it is.
