annoying recruitment consultant

Hi guys,

I run my own business and its been brought to my attention that the same individual has been ringing up the office for the last day or so to speak to one of my staff members. Usually this isnt a problem but as its a open plan office i was genuinely concerned it may have been one of our clients. I rang the mobile and it was i was greeted by a recruitment consultant, now the staff in question is happy as im aware and she recently got a pay rise, i spoke to her line manager about the matter and she confirmed he has rang last week over 5 times and she is not interested!

I understand he's fishing/ headhunting but surly even i didnt ring where the current staff member is working? Is there anything i can do to make him not pester my staff member?

I have a few idea's but would like to hear the thought of people on this forum!

Tell him you will have a dozen roles you will want filling in around 12 months time but if he head hunts or attempts to headhunt even one of your staff then there's no way his agency will get instructed.

That might mean the recruiter phones the OP every 12 minutes to ask questions about these roles...!?

I would say that it's down to your staff member to ask him to stop ringing, if that's what they want (which presumably they do - you'd prefer the calls to your mobile if at all).

Hi thanks for the replies.

The concerned member of staff has assured me she isn't looking and shes happy, do i believe her yes! why because she's been with us for a long time and VERY few employers would allow her the flexibility and benefits and the fact she is very respected.

She happy for me to tell him where to go.

Would mind wasting his time so send a strong a message out.

Most of them withhold their number - I get 2-3 calls a week from them on my mobile. I also get calls at work, they often lie to switchboard about who they are to get through to me (ie. say they're calling from an industry organisation that I'd want to talk to).

They are the worst industry I have ever had to deal with, we get several calls a day at the office and I get about 20 Linked-In requests a week. I now tell them we would love to work with them and we have lots of slots open, we also have a new supplier on-boarding fee of £25K. If they would like to cut me a purchase order for that amount then I would be happy to work with them...... Seems to stop them in their tracks.

Or call him again to discuss, then his line manager/director and have a word.

I would say if he doesn't get the message then give him a dummy role to recruit for you. Within the terms tell him he is not allowed to call your staff. He will be so busy trying to fill your role he will leave your staff alone. Might be daft.

If that fails get your secretary/receptionist to forward all office stationary calls/wrong numbers and other rubbish to his number. Tell him you will continue to do so until he stops his nonsense.

Now you've got their name you could always do a "any further calls to this office will be subject to a £50 call handling fee" letter. It might not stop them calling, but an invoice might.

Recruit them - they sound tenacious and willing - a trait many businesses find hard to get

I think although its irritating its just fishing. You should see my linked in inbox, im sure everyones the same, but I have recruiters spamming me with the same templates over and over again and others who badger me unless I respond. Usually I ignore.

If your employee is as happy as you say, you don't really need to do anything. She will tell them she is not interested and eventually they will get the message.

I would not get involved other than to make sure she has no good reason to leave.
