HMS Cardigan Bay

Not sure who would be interested in this, but figured I'd make a thread anyway. My Grandad passed away in 2006 and I was given his medals from the second World War along with a small photograph, an album of personal photographs and a whistle. He used to have a painting above the TV of K630 - HMS Cardigan Bay and this small photo was the inspiration for it. I knew he had served in the Royal Navy as a 'pom-pom' gunner on this frigate but I was probably a bit young to really appreciate it to any real depth. That said, I've carried it with me for the best part of ten years in my wallet and time has understandably taken its toll, so I had a crack at repairing it digitally.

I've tracked down the old Cardigan Bay association he used to be a member of and sent them the full-res pic and it seems much of her crew is going on strong into old age and I've learned a bit more about the ship herself. If anyone else has family who served on Cardigan Bay, let me know and I can put you in touch with the association.

Great job on the photo.

I so wish I had asked my grandparents more questions about their lives when I had the chance. As a kid, I was interested, but I didn't quite have the fascination that I have now.
