Hi folks,

I have a 2003 TD5 Disco 2 that I have decided to do up a bit and I'm looking for recommendations for where to go to get a decent ECU remap done here in Central Scotland.

The car is currently in a local 4x4 garage getting a de-cat exhaust, a new fuel pump (if needed), a new MAF sensor and the EGR system removed.

Once this is done I'm planning to get the car remapped with the aim of improving the torque curve across the rev range and bringing the power up to around 160 bhp. I don't think the local garage do remapping so can anyone recommend a reputable yet outfit to do this work for me relatively locally? I'm near Lanark if that helps.

All advice also welcome re tuning options.

Thanks in advance
TD

I used dynachip who travel to you and are very helpful, it utterly transformed the car.

Thanks Bill,

Have now got the same recommendation from others too so it looks like Dynachip is the way to go!

Will give him a call when the car gets back from the menders.

Once done could you provide an update? I'm interested in doing the same to mine!

Will do.

Just need to make sure that the car is healthy enough to justify the outlay first. Assuming the engine, gearbox and chassis all pass muster then I'll be getting this done in the next few weeks.

Getting the car back tomorrow so will report back. LR specialists says that it is driving really nicely now. It already had some sort of tuning box plugged in to it (so likely pretty rubbish) but I'll see what the improvement is like with the new MAF and straight through exhaust.

Well I now have the car back after the EGR blank, straight through exhaust, MAF sensor replacement and MAP sensor cleaning.

Result: Well first off it sounds FRUITY! The new exhaust really makes a good noise, although of course now the car sounds much faster than it is.

Unsurprisingly the MAF replacement has made a huge difference. The car revs much more easily, pulls harder from low revs and generally drives better. All good but this is still a slow car - and with the new sporty sounding exhaust the contrast between how it goes and how it sounds is pretty marked. This leads me to think that a remap is in order.

Sadly when I picked up the car the guy asked if I had a good welder near where I live! He then proceeded to show me a crack in the chassis rail behind the front drivers wheel. Not good but not the end of the world. He seemed to think that it is a pretty simple job.

So.........welding first, then more power since doing it the other way round might lead to undesirable consequences!

Well a quick update. The chassis welding is going to be done this week so will decide what to do re tuning after that.

One thing though. Now that the car has a decat exhaust and straight through middle section it sounds great, really great, but boy does it stink! I'm talking proper smelly old 3rd world bus exhaust fumes.

No st Sherlock I hear you cry, you de-catted the exhaust! But here is the thing - I was assured by the LR specialist that the car would still be able to pass the MOT emissions test, but seriously HOW - standing behind the car now is like being in a Tut Tut whilst stuck in a Bangkok traffic jam!

Have I been sold a dummy, or do the MOT emissions regs test for things other than those that make my exhaust stink? Worst case scenario I can always re-cat it when MOT time comes but that would be a giant pain in the balls - and wallet.

Sounds good though - did I mention that?

Cheers

Do you have to do the De-cat as part of the retune or was that something else you decided to do?

(I'm going to try and learn from any errors you make hehe )

Think decatting helps the engine breathe a bit better which leads to more power from the remap, but it is not essential. I just decided to go for the decat exhaust because the old one was shot and since I had to replace it I went for one that would sound much better. Was cheaper too of course since the cat is expensive.
