Well I have now seen the first steps of Crime prevention in my Area.

I live in W4 and in the last 18 months have had my car broken into 3 times. Each time I reported it to the police just ended up speaking to a civilian, who gave me a crime number and I never heard anything again. Well on friday I noticed a Fish eyed CCTV camera has now been fitted on a lamp post where all my incidents and other have happened. So hopefully the break ins will stop.

My question is, who has paid for this to be done?? Is it part of the council tax, if so this i s the first time I have seen my £1800 a year stealth tax go to any use.

Hopefully the BiB will catch the little scrotes who have been doing all of this.

Cheers Sean

could be home office money, could be local authority, or could be partnership money....

Sean,

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but a friend of mine had a hire car broken into a while back, just underneath one such camera.

Very detailed enquiries ensued on her behalf. She didn't know whose camera it was, therefore who to ask for footage. Eventually, the council local to the area admitted to placing it, and also admitted that it wasn't connected to anything - just like the other 29 such cameras in their patch.

I'd make some detailed enquiries yourself, find out whose it is, and also ensure that there is a VCR on the end of the wire ...

Perhaps we shouldn't be paranoid, but they are watching us it seems . . .

The spread of CCTV into residential areas is a worry. Of course this probably has more to do with a lack of police officers than any sinister Orwellian motives. My home town town center has dozens of CCTV cameras and 1 panda car with a police sgt and a special to police the drunks on a fri/sat night.
