i'm just wondering what gearbox you'll use that can cope with the power smile
Or are you going to make it 4wd?

That'll be the $64M question - find an end-on gearbox that a) can be persuaded to fit the engine using a custom bellhousing, b) together with the engine, fits within the available space using a custom subframe and c) copes with the available torque (though something thing a decently sized diesel would probably do it)...

I was sort of hoping that someone, somewhere had already done a transverse install in an Elise or Atom or anything like that so I could steal their ideas... redfacewink

I've seen a transverse installed Ls3 engine in an elise once
It used some kind of transverseGM gearbox.
But as far as I can remember there were no Manual gearboxes. they're all automatic.
They did a DCT one in a car but i can't for the love of god remember which one.
A gearbox from a V8 volvo XC90 might be a shout if you don't mind it being automatic.
But not the most reliable of the bunch

Just found that Audi did a transverse v8 with manual transmission.
It's used for engine swaps in MR2's, MK1/2 golfs, etc…
there's some info on here http://www.mr2oc.com/187-v8-mr2-forum/445682-v8-fa...

Might be worth trying to contact any of the Metro 6R4 owners??

They were transverse engine. Maybe the sub-frame could be cannibalised to hold an AJP V8?

....Else, go for a for & aft installation with Getrag trans-axle a la Porsche??

....Yep, bonkers alright!!

maybe you an use something from Ford?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_SHO_V8_engine
they also have 300hp + V6 transverse setups, maybe those boxes are stronger?

Noble just used a Ford MTX75 in the M12 - twin turbocharged Ford Duratec 30 V6 and similar power to AJP8.

They're in plentiful supply and cheap so if you do bugger it after a while, who cares?

Bonkers? Definitely! But very interesting. I hope you can pull it off!

On the subject of bonkers Minis, has anyone on here been following "Project Binky"? I am currently avidly awaiting Episode 12.....
