Chaps & Chapesses, has anyone received an e-mail purporting to be from an outfit called Billmenow.com? It looks a bit like a Paypal receipt and says it's an electronic receipt for $594 for pond goldfish, which of course I haven't bought! There is no mention of my credit card details on it so I assume they haven't got those but are "fishing" (pun) to see if I am mug enough to send them back. Strange thing is that if I go to the supposed web site there is nowhere inviting me to enter my card details, which if it is a scam, seems a bit odd?

I did a quick Google search to see if it is a common scam but couldn't find anything?

Anyone got any clues? Rich...

I suspect billmenow.com is a legitimate company, but either:

a) They have a 'bug' which has resulted in them sending bills in error.

b) Someone has setup an account/hi-jacked an existing account and is attempting to use it to get some revenue

Just forward the email to them and explain that you are concerned this could be a scam and will not be paying as you didn't purchase the item mentioned....

Humm... the www.billmenow.com web site appears to be just an index page with nothing behind it so I can't forward anything because there isn't a forwarding address. Seems very strange as scams go Rich...

IMHO. (Your mileage may vary, always read the label, your home is at risk if you watch too much PH)

It might not be a scam, it might just be spam. If you're email server accepted the email, they know your email address is valid (which can then be sold).

If you clicked on a link, they could have been trying to send you an Outlook virus or again they could just have been obtaining your details, IP address and so on.

I suggest you just ignore it.
