I've been having a tidy up today, and was casting my eyes over my v5c...it would appear that the model is incorrect, am I going to get hung by my knackers?

Its a jap import, has been in the country for 15 years, and has presumably always been listed as this model on the v5c.

The make, colour, engine size etc are all correct, and due to its age it is taxed on a flat rate, this wouldn't change if the model was updated.

when I insured it, I insured as the correct model, and at its piddly market value (£1k).

If it were mine and the model description isn't a mile out then I wouldn't worry. To try and get it changed now with the DVLA 15 years after import would probably be more hassle than it's worth! So long as your insurance are aware and are happy you should be okay.

My wifes SLk was incorrectly registered by mercedes as a 280 when its a 300. Had to get a letter from mercedes to send to the DVLA to get the V 5 changed. Not sure how you'd go about it but there must be a form .

2 years on and only the DVLA accept its a 300 2 years n a row ive had to insure it as a 280 with a note on file that its a 300 as they never seem to update their databases. Numpty call handlers tell me there is no such thing as an SLK 300. 🙄

So I'm just wondering who you think is going to come along and hang you by your knackers and for what transgression?

Whoever filled in the V55/5 when it was imported put something down wrong, or the DVLA person transferring it to computer picked the wrong option when nothing identical was listed.

Nobody will die as a result.

Nothing to worry about, my Golf Rallye is registered as a Golf "saloon" on the V5 and has been ever since I imported it 16 years ago, never had a problem.

My Cayman comes up as an estate body type under a lot of searches.

It does pretty well with its 1:1 boot/passenger ratio, but I'm not sure I would stretch to "estate"

Can you confirm to the public at large that your testicles are completely sound and unbruised?

I would be more surprised if the model listed was correct, than incorrect.

well given that it comes up as a model that is 110bhp, when it is in fact a 175bhp car, i was worried that my insurers would get a bit narky in the event of a claim.

Had a chat with them last night, and they weren't overly concerned about what was on the V5, so that's that. It's insured for the car it is, so i guess that's the important thing.

thought it would be prudent to follow up, as i know all sorts of little details like that can be brought to bear in the event of a claim.

I know there are a lot of starlet glanzas knocking around that are listed as starlets on the v5, and people insuring them as such...i didn't want to fall into any traps based on a misunderstanding of whats insured.
