A4 Gearbox Problem

Hi

I run an 2003 A4 Avant 130 TDI and the gearbox has started whining. I have searched and
found this problem mentioned in a few forums which I am not a member of. I am trying to find
out what causes this problem if it is a specific bearing or gear etc. Has anyone any information
or experience of this . The box is a 6 speed manual. Thanks in advance.

buy another gearbox,ebay £150 or so, don't bother stripping it and changing a few bearings,you need hefty gear pullers to strip these boxes,then you'll find something else needs doing and be costing £300plus,not worth grief rebuilding.
