Respray complete, collect today!

Cant wait. Total respray now complete. Same colour as before - starfire mica red. Was supposed to just have front end done but couldnt resist it and ended up having the whole car sprayed. Went in to see it yesterday and it looks superb. They even wheeled it out into the sunlight so I could see those lovelly gold flecks at work. Wow! Made me realise how tired the paint looked before. Will post details/prices/pics soon.

Later this week its having a new hood fitted. Current hood is standard black but thinking about having a maroon one fitted, what do you guys think? I'm in the process of replacing cream carpet with maroon (with buscuit piping) so do you think a maroon hood would be too much? The seats and other trim are buscuit coloured so there would still be some contrast. Interested on your opinions. Any pics of dark red hoods on griffs would be cool too.

Looks good. The only downside I can see is that it would show the dirt much more than a dark colour.

Cheers for the pic. Looks nice. And the car looks exactly the same colour as mine so it gives me a decent idea of what it will look like. The only thing I'm worried about is that black doesnt look too bad even when its faded a bit, whereas with red I dunno. Can you can get renovo products for red hoods?

Wildeep are you sure that is a Bentley colour, mine appears to be exactly the same colour and was told it was a VW colour, not had to touch anything up yet so can't confirm!

I had a company Golf ("S" reg) that was a similar colour to this. From memory it was Canyon Red.

Griffrhysjones, I'd say from the pic on your profile that your car is much darker. I'd argue that Wildeep's looks exactly the same as mine though. Starfire red, a toyota colour.

It does look very similar to yours jamiet, although is starfire a metallic and not a pearlesant?. Dads is called Bentley Red Pearlesant, it is a Bentley special colour as the bodyshop looked it up in their colour charts to make a touch up paint. The car was originally a demonstrator for a main dealer who also dealt in Bentleys. We have been told that it is the only griff ever made in this colour.

Tell me about it Garry! I'm scared to death of driving it now. By the end it was so completely peppered with stone chips that I didnt even wince when passing the odd gritter lorry - now I'm fighting the temptation to wrap it in cotton wool.

Yes mine is metallic not pearlescent, probably a huge difference if you parked them next to each other, but I cant tell any difference in the pics.

Total was £863 inclusive which I thought was bloody amazing considering what they did. They repaired a deep, inch long crack below one of the headlights and a couple of hairline cracks around the bonnet opening. They respryed the whole car too apart from the wing mirrors which was a bit wierd as I thought they said they would do them. I also had chips all down the inside of the door shuts where both doors had dropped, so they also adjusted the doors, shaved a bit off one of them and resprayed the door shuts. They also re-aligned the boot properly after they sprayed it. The best bit is that the 6 inch square patch of peeling lacquer on top of the drivers wing is no more! He even sprayed my petrol cap as it was looking rather rusty!

One problem though - They were pressure washing it before I took it away and as I watched out the window I noticed the guy drag the hose right over the nose cone of the car. Couldnt really see any damage at the time due to water droplets but now its dry there are some nasty scratches on it. I called them and they were very sorry and said to drop it in this evening and they'll polish them out if possible, otherwise they'll respray it. Most companies make mistakes but the difference between a good compnay and a bad one is how they deal with them.

That is an amazing deal - people have paid that much for a front end respray only!

As they're near me too, I'm very tempted...

I'd be surprised if they can't polish out the scratches. I bet they're as annoyed at the guy who did it as you are. I look forward to seeing it.

It was cheap (I was expecting it to be more like £1500!)but they didnt take the whole car right back to the fibreglass. They took the front end, bonnet, rear wing and door shuts right back, but they just 'blew over' the rest of the car after sanding back the lacquer and one or two layers of paint. Still looks great though. I guess its better doing that than trying to blend new paint into unpainted areas that have faded over 13 years. Plus every part of the car had some minor chips or scratches so at least they're all gone too. I guess I'll only really know how good a job it was after a few months once the paint has hardened off and settled down. I'll take some pics if there is a break in the cloud over the weekend. It looks great in the sun!

Maybe they did do a front end and polished up the rest. I'm getting my car sprayed doing the prep too and I've been quoted 1k. Might be worth getting my car down there for that sort of money.

The only section I think they may have simply polished was the top of the boot lid. There is no way they could polish out the chips I had behind the rear wheels or the 2 inch mark near the filler cap where the boot lid had rubbed away the paint.

I took it back in on Friday night and they spent an hour carefuly polishing out the scratches they left on the front - they were very apologetic. Incidently, whilst the respray was being done I gave them some glue and they stuck the under-bonnet heat shielding back on properly for me while they had the bonnet off. They have a done a great job for the money and I havent spotted any overspray anywhere. If anyone is thinking about taking their car there then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at mine first.

Hi Jamie, saw you cruising through Taunton yesterday, what a day it was ! Mine was in town also (roof off, which was why I was in Starbucks warming up!!)
Didn't realise you'd had it painted, who did the job?
