I'm fed up of these never ending What Car Threads, can we get rid of them from the main forum into their own subsection?

Today's latest example

i want a new car but i have no idea what i want.

so far this week i have thought about forester sti, m3's, alpina's, 325ti, z4's, vx220's, elise, rx400, xc90, mondeo, ginetta, merc 190, mk1 tt qs, mk2 tt, rcz, freelander 2, disco

basically i have thought about pretty much every car ever made and i can find a reason for all of them really BUT i cant decide on any one to truly fixate on and go buy.

Ive never been in this position before ive always had a damn good idea what i want but at the mo i feel like im going round and round and im going to truly regret what ever i get frown

Every what car thread should be automatically directed to the classified section and then closed.

More often than not the posters requirements could easily be filled by using the filters in the classified.

We'd need to look into this more deeply, but as it happens we've got a meeting on Monday to review all the individual forums - I'll bring this suggestion up.

Thanks

To add some balance, I'm happy for what car threads to remain in GG. They are, after all, discussions about cars.

This. What else is GG for?

For General (car) Gassing, not endless repetitive threads wanting other people to do research for them because they're too bone idle to use Autotrader site.

Please, just set up a forum for this purpose already.

Just don't click on the "What car?" threads.

yes

IMO part of chatting about cars is chatting about what's next, and an autotrader search doesn't replace that. If you don't like it then ignore it.

Same here. I probably wouldn't visit a what car forum but happy to dip in in GG

Hi all,

Thanks for the alternative views - seems like the PH jury is out on this one. I have to say that I personally don't mind them as they're not numerous enough to be intrusive and cause issues in the way that spamming threads do. Equally, I fear that if we did set up a "what car" forum there wouldn't be enough traffic to sustain it and posters would just keep putting them in GG.

There isn't enough traffic to justify about 70% of the other sub-forums but they remain. Why should this one be any different? These topics have been an issue clogging up the main forum since the site began and there's no shortage of requests in this forum for them to have their own sub-forum. It seems because a couple of vocal mods say no that that's the end of the discussion and to hell with the rest of the members. rolleyes There are always pages of replies to them so the lack of traffic argument doesn't wash. I'm confident that a sub-forum would work just fine.

It's generally moronic repetitive ste please get rid of it to a sub forum.

Tents, caravans and motorhomes forum has had 30 posts since the start of the year and doesn't do much better in high season either. There are approx 5 new "what car?" threads per day. How can admin sit there with a straight face and state "there wouldn't be enough traffic to sustain it"?

Just get it done.

If I see a thread that I'm not interested in then I don't read it. If I don't like "what car" threads then why would I read them and find out that the person has driven loads of cars but has no idea what to buy!

It's fairly simple to be honest.
