hi i recently posted a juddering problem on my mondeo 2001 tdci,
just to reiterate the post i have not had the car that long and when
i bought it it was fine no juddering,i had a couple of reply's which was
helpful, but hears a thing when i got the car it had nearly a tank of diesel
so i did not fill up for sometime, when i did thats when the juddering started
i kind of think it could be the diesel i put in as it was from a supermarket
because i filled up from empty from esso and the juddering has stopped
but now i am having problems with it starting.it does start but it takes sometime
i hope this all makes sense thanks

Because he/she did not get the response they wanted I suppose.

OP, posts like this will not get much response in here, we prefer bhin, fightin and drinkin... (Maybe not smile )

You would be better off finding an owner specific forum probably.

Good luck.

I hope I am wrong but this era of mondeo it might be your Dual Mass Flywheel is on its last legs, would account for both the vibration and starting issues

Define not starting?

Turns over and doesnt fire?

Starter motor makes a noise then it starts?

Honesty time to look for a garage to take a look

It isn't going to be a choke.

You need to give a much clearer description of what happens and what the symptoms are. And confirm exactly what engine it has - I don't know mondeos so have no idea about tddi vs tdci but others here will.

Things to check:

Fuel filter - change it - just because it had a service doesn't mean anything.
Air filter - change it.
Battery - is it the correct spec? it hasn't had a cheap lower rating one fitted?
All those are very cheap.

Glow plugs? silly question but the light is coming on and you're waiting for it to go off before starting?

Get a generic code reader and read the codes - what do you get?

Fuel filter. Had the same on my 2.0 tdci c max, replaced that (and a number of diesel lines) and it's fine.

checked air filter thats fine as for fuel filter i will change that asap
i have not been waiting for the glow plug light to go out as its been fine
as its started within a second or two, could it possibly be the fuel filter
as since i have put in esso fuel its been fine, as before it had tescos fuel it had the
the slight juddering or missing, now perhaps its got crap in the filter
as it wont start as it did

Diesels will take longer to start. Mine takes a little while of cranking before it fires.

Any smoke? Is the glow plug light flashing?

Try flicking the ignition on, leaving till the warning lights go out then off. Do this 3 times and see if it starts any better.

Also its unlikely to be a TDCi on a 2001 plate - they didnt come out till 2002. Which means it is the slightly more reliable Di engine.

Diesel Mondeo's have two fuel pumps, the diesel pump under the bonnet and the lift pump near the tank. Not an uncommon failure. Could also be an early sign of injector failure, crank sensor, cam sensor, injection pump etc. Without it being code read it could literally be anything.

Once it's warmed up can you turn it off then back on normally? If yes then before you start from cold next time try tipping half of kettle of hot water over the injectors. It it fires up no bother then you've got a leaky injector.... Maybe.
