Just Bought a 997 GTS
Discussion
My first Porsche and the first "proper" car I have owned for quite a few years! I gave up having nice cars about ten years ago as lived in London with on street parking and suffered more than one set of wheel thefts and had my E36 M3 pretty much stripped of all external parts many years ago. Moved out of London six months ago to South Bucks and have had the itch since...played with all sorts of scenarios...changiyng the family bus (X5) to an RS6 /M5 etc or even getting a 991 GTS but have always loved the 997 GTS saw this one and went for it,
Anyway spec
Carrera 2
Silver
Black half Alcantara
Manual (the most important bit)
Short shift
Those are the salient bits I think! Spec list is pretty long but the OPC has taken it off the website already and I don't have the full spec sheet. Doesn't have the sports suspension but I'll be honest I am a) an old git now) and b) we have some lovely narrow country roads near us where a more compliant ride will work better I think.
Paid the deposit today and off to look at it tomorrow. I've been away on business this week and was trawling the classifieds on Wed night in my hotel room. Spotted the listing minus photos before it seemed to have hit the main used car sites or even the main Porsche one and have gone for it as these cars seem to be selling quickly in the right spec. JZM seem to have sold a PDK listed this week that was listed for close to £65k!
I very nearly went for the GTS that was the subject of the "spotted" article over Xmas but didn't and regretted it. Really wanted a manual preferably with Alcantara and didn't want a black or white car which most seem to be.
OPC has been a pleasure to deal with so far. Very upfront about the deal they could do and given I get the two year OPC warranty I think it was a decent enough deal. £60k with 28,000 on the clock.
Found the 997 GTS threads on here very helpful!
Can't wait to get behind the wheel tomorrow.

I was looking a few years ago. Gave up because I couldn't find a car with the spec I wanted - you'd be amazed how many first owners didn't tick the full leather box. An expanse of plastic dash isn't a good look on any 911. And a surprising few who un-ticked centre lock wheels. Whether you like the mechanism or not I think they're a must on the GTS. Once you've removed a wheel or two it becomes second nature.
GT Silver looks lovely on the GTS. Hope it meets your expectations.

No full leather dash on this this car though DK have a car with has full leather but it's PDK ! The car that JZM had up for £65k (and seems to have sold) had full leather too. But that was PDK too...
I saw a post on here about production numbers and I think there were maybe 100 manual C2's delivered in the UK...given half the cars are probably black or white that meant I was looking for a relatively rare car and really wanted the Alcantara which seemingly a lot of people deleted...and I really wanted Short Shift. So when this car came up I just went for it.
In terms of the deal the OPC did flex a bit (of there own volition) and I really appreciated how they approached selling the car. No messing...none of the "what do you want to pay" (the most annoying question ever) or "I'll have to consult my business manager" etc I spent less than 10 minutes on the phone with them.
I have paid top price compared to the three other C2 GTS's listed on the AUC site (they are all listed for less than £60k) but they are all PDK and the car I am getting has a more generous spec. In whole life costs on a car like this £1000 or £2000 here or there is not going to matter that much. Cars with specialists look expensive to me compared to the OPC cars as they don't have the two year warranty.
Sadly the car is not GT Silver....that would have been icing on the cake!
Off to take it for a spin shortly....
I actually live half way between RPM and JZM and my kids go to school 5 mins from JZM so I shouldn't have any problem looking after the car though I suspect it'll need to go back to an OPC for servicing because of the warranty?

Absolutely loved it. Car is in great condition and hasn't been prepped yet (which is why it's in the workshop and not the showroom). The manual box is a thing of joy.....just so precise, makes you want to change gear! Even on what was a wet/slippery day there's plenty of grip and traction. Only small negatives are the exhaust note which definitely could be better and I might change the steering wheel for the Alcantara one.
Full spec
18 way Adaptive Seats
Bose
Bluetooth
Universal Audio Interface
Heated Seats
Park Assist
Floor Mats (what a joke!)
Cruise Control
VTS
Doors sills in stainless tell
Illuminated door sills
Rear Wiper
Sport Shift
Homelink
Auto Dimming Mirrors
3 spoke multi function steering wheel
Isofix
Aluminium Fuel Filler Cap
Have to say I don't really see the issue with the dashboard not being full leather!
Bought the car from OPC Silverstone who apparently have just been awarded dealer of the year by Porsche GB. The sales guy (who sold the car when it was new) and business manager both great to deal with. Total contrast to Hatfield who I went to see about a month ago...

I am going to ask the OPC what the attitude to warranty work will be if I get the Sharwerks fitted.
Congrats on the purchase - they are a great car!My 3 disappointments were the exhaust noise (cured with the Sharkwerks bypass), the ride height (cured with H&R springs) and the wheels sat too far in the arches (cured with a set of GT3 RS wheels) so now 100% perfect!
Extended warranty doesn't cover the exhaust system anyway so once the warranty is in place )(has to be 100% standard for this) you could fit the bypass pipe and only have to worry about it in 2 years time if you choose to extend the warranty again. At that time you simply switch out back to the original one for the pre-warranty extension checkover and then re-install the sharkwerks once in place.
Enjoy it!

looks great. and silver is low maintenance colour.only thing I can see is have you thought about asking OPC on swapping the steering wheel? personal taste but I prefer the sports design wheel

The short throw gear lever with alcantara feels and looks fantastic....so it seems daft not having a wheel to match.

Funnily enough I spoke to the salesman this morning...he's getting me a price as I write. When I saw the car I really thought it would make a difference to the interior.

Finally, somebody who hasn't succumbed to that nasty Americanism 'shifter' The short throw gear lever with alcantara feels and looks fantastic....so it seems daft not having a wheel to match.

Yes it definitely does add something to the sense of occasion and would match the alcantara shifter. The car has the leather dash as well which is a nice upgradeThe short throw gear lever with alcantara feels and looks fantastic....so it seems daft not having a wheel to match.
FWIW I got the sports design one with alcantara free of charge but that was a bit of luck

We have an Amercianism swear box in my office (my idea)...each transgression costs a quid. Funds go the bacon sandwich fund after we've all been out for the night. Personally I think rims is worse than shifter!
