Failed MOT recently due to very high emmissions on my V8S. Now back down to sensible levels but was told that she was venting lots of oil. Has only done 46000 mls, runs very well, has very good oil pressure and uses average amounts of oil - so no untoward symptoms other than the high emmissions. Any thoughts as to whether this is something worth worrying about?

When the emissions on my SEAC went through the roof, I needed a new cam.

MoT failure on mine due to Emissions (double CO2 limits) was due to a Plenum air leak. Where was yours "venting oil" from and what was done to get the emissions down to pass the MoT??

Ignorant question coming up.

So, if my Chimaera gets consistently good emissions results, is that a sign that a certain number of bits and bobs are in good shape up front?

I'm consistently surprised that the emissions results are so good, considering it's an old design, and 5 ruddy great litres. Makes me kinda wish the govt. would bring down emissions limits a little to get some more sheds off the road instead of just venting hot air about cars vs. environment in general.

46,000 miles is enough to be considering worn bores, worn cam and so on.

I was yakking about emissions with Mr. Brady of TVR Scotland fame and it rather puts things in perspective when you think that the average car puts about 20 Kg of CO into the atmosphere, relative to the average ship that chucks out 2500 TONNES....
So there's the solution. Abolish the Royal Navy.
Actually, you might as well, since we seem to be letting just anybody walk into the bleeding country at the moment. Just you wait, you 'asylum seekers', till we get the next generation aircraft carriers off the stocks. Then it'll be time for a good old British thrashing, six of the best, trousers down.

Why the hell did my grandad fight three world wars to save this country? He single-handedly besieged Leningrad, threw an atom bomb out the window of his Tiger Moth and got the Yanks off the beach at Normandy by organising the 1966 world cup game between Argentina and Germany.
Or so he told me when I was a kid....

Will need to keep a close eye on. High reading was sorted by nothing more than some tweaking with the engine set up and fitting some new plugs. Hopefully she won't revert to her old ways. If it gets worse I will need to investigate further.
