Mk5 Golf Gti Clutch Drag
Discussion
Has anyone experienced clutch drag on a Mk5 Golf Gti, or same engined car?
Sometimes when starting from cold the car tries to lurch forwards when I start in gear, and if started in neutral I struggle to get a gear. When I tried to start in gear the other day the car lurched and there was quite a bang from the gearbox area of the car. Once under way the car drives perfectly, with no signs of clutch slip.
The car has been in the garage for it once already, and they thought they had found the problem caused by a leaking pipe to the master cylinder, but the problem returned the next day.
Cheers.

Hi,
I had similar symptoms, pretty much the exact same, do you need to match the revs to get into gear smoothly?
Mine turned out bad news, shattered friction plate so there was a wedge lose, when clutch is disengaged it lies loose and keeps a bit of contact, then when clutch is engaged it works it way back into place and wont even slip a bit.
Hope for you its not, because its new clutch and flywheel, but only way to see is to open up the clutch.
This is on an A3 8p, so same chassis but 4wd for mine.
